Travel Inspired Jewelry - Handcrafted in California

Beads scattering across airplane floors as a kid. A jewelry metals class at fourteen in school. Being an only child. A fascination with art classes and artists. Traveling with my parents who ran their own businesses. These are snippets of my life that would eventually help lead me to start Taisteal.

Growing up in a small town in Wisconsin, I enjoyed spending time at the lake, leaves changing into vibrant fall colors, and snow floating down outside my windows in the winter. I always wondered what else was out there. My parents fostered my love of art and exploration as I grew up, and I knew as soon as I could I wanted to just GO. I wanted to go to Europe and Asia, see U.S. cities I hadn't gotten to yet. I knew it was a never ending list and I needed to start.

By the time I finished my Art History degree, I had been to Europe several times, Mexico, the Carribbean, all over the U.S. from NYC to Florida, D.C. to Los Angeles, all the way up to Alaska. I knew travel was something I would always do. Whenever I could.

When I moved to Los Angeles over 8 years ago, I started taking a few weekend jewelry courses and I realized how much I had missed it. Jewelry making was to be another part of my life. Over these last years I've done so many things including beading, wirework, metal smithing, forging, soldering, wax carving and sculpting, and playing with precious metal clay. Every technique allows for certain elements to come together. Often the end result has been touched by the fiery torch. I knew it was time to melt my two passions together.

I just happen to be married to an Irishman who loves to travel as much as I do. He tends to immortalize my inspirations in his high resolution panoramic landscape photographs. Our home is a blend of all our passions brought together.

New Caledonia is on the list as our next special trip. After that we will see where the wind takes us. After all, it's a big world and there is so much you don't even know you want to see. I'll be sure to share our adventures with you thru stories, photos and new pieces in the shop.
