Hi! I'm Mindy, the artist behind Bella Lou Boutique, and this is the story of how my business got its name!

In 2018 I wanted to open my Etsy shop. I can be indecisive at times, ok, most of the time 😬, and naming my business was definitely one of those times. I could've easily used my own name in my business, but I was pursuing art because of and for my daughter. She was nearly one when I started learning calligraphy and watercolor as an act of self-care. I wanted to be creative for her and with her, and I can say now, years later, that I have loved all of our creative times together!

One day we were visiting our cousin who uses a middle name for people in his life that I find so fun and endearing. I heard him call her "Annabelle Lou" and I immediately fell in love with the sound of it!

I wanted my shop to feel like a boutique you come to for elegance and fun, and I was so excited to have settled on the name that encapsulates that. Bella is the elegance, Lou is the fun, and Boutique is the shopping experience! (Bella is what we thought we'd call our daughter, and this would be a perfect application as Bella means Beautiful.)

My top two favorite things to create are alcohol ink pieces, made digitally in Procreate, and watercolor aurora borealis paintings. I find both subjects and mediums to be freeing and calming. While I'm drawn to bright colors and create openly with them, you'll also find some softer artwork of florals, which have a special place in my heart.

I hope you enjoy the elegance and fun in the pieces I create, just as I get to see those characteristics in my Annabelle Lee every day!
