"CARING FOR YOUR JEWELLERY"

Sterling Silver can tarnish and oxidize due to a reaction to chemicals and heat and body oils.
Over time, sterling silver will develop a mellow patina caused by ‘Oxidization’, which results in an ‘Antique’ look where tarnish builds up in the fine details giving your sterling silver jewelry a beautifull appearance. You may or may not like this so you should consider this before making any attempts at cleaning your jewelry.
The best way to preserve and encourage the tarnished ‘Antique’ look to sterling silver jewelry can be done by not cleaning the jewelry with water, and not wearing the jewelry in the shower or bath.
The best way to prevent tarnish is to wear your sterling silver jewelry as often as possible.
If your sterling silver does become tarnished, it is easily restored to its former glory by using warm water with a mild soap, rinsing it and then making sure to thoroughly dry it with a fine soft cloth.
Silver pastes, treated polishing cloths or other sterling silver cleaning materials can also be used to remove tarnish. The above tips can also be applied to gold filled jewellery,Treat gold filled with care because vigorous cleaning can wear away the precious coating! It is best to use a soft jewellery cloth to clean gold filled.

About

About me

My shop mixedmetaljewellery is run by me Belinda. Making people feel special and unique is what drives me to create and design jewellery for men and women. I design and make all my jewellery myself. I'm a self taught silversmith/metalsmith.
I first started making beaded jewellery using mainly glass and crystal beads. I use to buy the sterling silver findings for my designs and soon realised I wanted to make my own findings from sterling silver. From there I gradually moved more into working with sterling silver and less with beading. I loved working with silver so much that I really wanted to learn how to make rings, bangle etc and so began my path of the self taught silversmith/metalsmith. I've had lots and lots of reading and searching the net for information on age old jewellery making techniques. Teaching myself the art of silversmithing has been difficult at times with plenty of trials and error, but also very rewarding especially when a customer tells you how much they love their piece of jewellery.
I do enjoy the whole process of designing, handmaking and selling my unique one off designs and limited edition jewellery. I thrive on creativity and challenges.
The techniques I currently use are forming, fabricating, etching, roller printing, piercing, hammer texturing, doming, soldering and heat texturing.
I love working with sterling silver, fine silver, yellow & rose goldfilled metals, gemstones, beads, base metals and working with a product called pmc(precious metal clay) .
