I sin hemmastudio i en liten stad söder om Chicago tillverkar Jen Surine moderna smycken för hand i sin signaturstil som kallas "Openwork". Denna skulpturala teknik innebär att man skär och monterar bitar av tråd för att skapa bärbara, dimensionella smycken.
Jens distinkta designestetik uppstår i hennes förmåga att para ihop oväntade, motsägelsefulla teman i sina verk. Kombinationer hon använder inkluderar sammansättningar som edgy/glamorous, arkitektoniskt/eteriskt och art déco/futuristiskt. Resultatet är ett smycke med en helt egen distinkt stil.
Jen, som är född i Michigan, tycker om att umgås med sin man och sina två pojkar när hon inte är i sin ateljé. Hon älskar soliga dagar, utflykter till sjön för att leta stenar, brödbakning och familjepromenader till den lokala glassbutiken. Jen tog examen från Grand Valley State University med en kandidatexamen i filosofi, med inriktning på metaller och smycken.
In her home studio in a small town south of Chicago, Jen Surine hand fabricates contemporary jewelry in her signature style called “Openwork”. This sculptural technique involves cutting and assembling pieces of wire to create wearable, dimensional jewelry.
Jen’s distinct design aesthetic arises from her ability to pair unexpected, contradictory themes in her work. Combinations she utilizes include juxtapositions like edgy/glamorous, architectural/ethereal, and Art Deco/Futuristic. The result is a piece of jewelry with a distinct style all its own.
Jen, a native Michigander, enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys when she’s not in her studio. She’s a lover of sunny days, trips to the lake for rock hunting, baking bread, and family walks to the local ice cream shop. Jen graduated from Grand Valley State University with a BFA, specializing in Metals & Jewelry.
