Sustainable & Low-tech Gear

The idea is to produce sustainable gear for conscious dwellers and outdoor explorers; to satisfy an archetypal love of beautiful things, made by hand and by cunning. A pristine and low-tech approach to production, where respect and rhythm challenge the linearity of machines.

I'm proud to present you with a vast array of items from whatever tool that requires a fine edge to wooden bike parts, kitchen utensils and outdoor gear.

"Not satisfied with a literal reading of the world, but hoping to reveal and bring forward, like a metaphor, new and old meanings to the existing world. Learning from the flight of Icarus to avoid the faustian hubris of modern technology and trying to go back to a time when it was not technology alone that bore the name techné, a time in which the term included and honored both craftsmanship and the fine arts; that is, ‘poiesis’."

- Traditional Tools: This tools are more efficient than primitive tools, more widely distributed than industrial ones, and by their design, they rule out certain levels of power, mainly bureaucracy and expertocracy, and can be locally mantained.

- Traditional Techniques: To develop skills and educate the hands, keep ancient lore alive and achieve levels of quality which are becoming rare in the age of mass production. For example, all tools are hardened after sunset to properly gouge the temperatures and assure a fine crystalline structure of the steel; an invisible quality that the hands of a craftsman will nonetheless quickly notice and cherish.

- Recycled Materials: Most of the wood is either recycled or harvested from dead branches/trees and metals mostly salvaged from old tools.

- Handmade: All creations are made and powered by hand or foot-power, only rarely are motors used, to keep the body strong and the mind in a silent and meditative environment.

- Zero Waste Goal: Wood shavings become kindling for the forge or workshop stove, left over logs from carving are inoculated for mushroom cultivation, old tools become new blades, incoming packaging becomes outgoing packaging; I strive as much as possible to up-cycle materials in a constant loop. I can proudly say that there is virtually no landfill produced at my workshop.

From a background of low-tech and philosophy, I moved to applying these approaches to craftsmanship. Honouring traditions, but with an innovative twist; I'll be forever lost in the quest for the perfect edge, a simple life and a different economy.
