Welcome to Berchtasbelly1--a shop that celebrates the 3 seasons of winter we have here in
Vermont with beautiful handmade one-of-a-kind items for infants and toddlers. Each item is made with love and creativity from sweaters that I am given, find at thrift shops or tag sales, or am no longer wearing, and repurposed into beautiful, unique longies, shorties, soakers, overalls, rompers, bonnets, hoods, balaclavas, and capes. I studied Medieval Scandinavia, so often my inspiration comes from folktales, children's illustrations and lore. I am deeply grateful for the beauty I am surrounded by here in VT and love to create warm lovely items that honour her bitter climate.

A few select antique and vintage items for children will be in the mix too.

All items are made by me, and since I am not a professional seamstress, most items will not look perfect. but will have a form of "homemade perfection" that no manufactured item could hope to have : D I serge the edges and double stitch too. How the garment was constructed will be in the write-ups about the item. If you have a specific request for an item or style you see and like, I am happy to work on a custom order.

I also do exchanges, but you pay for the shipping.

If you are local, no shipping required and I will barter.

Thanks for looking!

Check out my other shop: selenesian.etsy.com for Victorian-1960s vintage items!

As of Jan 2010 I am a proud member of EtsyKids team!

and a member of etsyclothdiaper team!

All items are made in a smoke-free dog friendly environment.

As most of my items are not lanolized, please visit milkmademomma.etsy.com's shop for lanolizing products!

If you are requesting a custom item, you will need to pay 50% upfront to cover the cost of making it. If you do not like the results, this money is not returned due to my time/labor and materials cost.
