About

>>>SEND HAPPINESS<<<

Hello there!

I'm Britta, self-proclaimed paper-lover, design geek, and the girl behind Bert&Lou. I am a proud Colorado native, but I currently live in the midwest, just outside Chicago. Bert&Lou offers witty greeting cards and super fine paper goods—all designed and painted by me!

Bert&Lou Creative began *officially* in August 2014, but it was *unofficially* born in 2009 after I graduated college and friends began commissioning me for wedding/event art and art for their homes. I studied fine art at a tiny liberal arts college on the Mississippi River, Augustana College, but after graduation I found that I really lacked those opportunities for daily creativity that I so thrived upon. I floundered around for a few years within jobs that didn't utilize my skills or passions, but my "aha!" moment came when a total stranger reached out to me for hand-painted wedding cards. I did most of the signage and paper goods for my best friend and my sister's weddings, and then decided to make the leap. Thus, Bert&Lou was born.

Who exactly are Bert&Lou?!
Bert and Lou are me, or more accurately, they are the two most ridiculous nicknames that have stuck with me. Just about everyone mishears my name, so Bert stuck around as the most popular butchering of Britta, and Lou is what my high school gym teachers would call me. They each have their quirky charm at this point, even though I resented them at the time!

When I’m not painting up new goodies for the shop, I try to make sure life is brimming with creative moments and good vibes. I read voraciously, drink too much tea and coffee, get dirt under my fingernails in the garden, and do a fair amount of playing in the woods. Documenting these moments on my Instagram and blog motivates me to live a creative life, and hopefully it will be a source of inspiration to you as well. You can visit my blog here: http://www.bertandlou.com

I believe you should be intentional with what you choose to surround yourself with. If you have the choice, buy handmade, buy local, and bring those good vibes into your home. And of course, share those vibes and send happiness!

A portion of sales from the Grateful for a Plate-full card goes toward helping children in need through No Kid Hungry.

Bert&Lou cards can currently be found at these brick + mortar locations:

Welcome to Bert&Lou!

My mission is to keep the Happy Mail dream alive! So much of our communication is electronic these days that getting a special card in the mail is now more meaningful than it ever has been. Who doesn't love opening up their mailbox to something other than bills?! My hand-painted designs ensure a unique way to say "Hello!", "Thank You!", "You're Invited", or just "Thinking of You". I also offer 100% unique custom hand-painted wedding and shower invitations, as well as any other wedding art you may be dreaming about.

I hand-paint every design in the shop! Most designs are then digitally edited in order to turn out best when printed. I also offer entirely hand-painted sets of greeting cards, wedding invitations, bridal shower invites...you name it!

I do my very best to represent my items accurately on the page but please keep in mind that color may vary slightly from monitor to monitor. If you have any questions on how your exact pieces will look, or if you have any additional questions, just shoot me a message through the shop!

CUSTOM ORDERS
I LOVE working on custom pieces! If you have a wedding, holiday, birthday, shower, etc. coming up, I'd love to work with you to make something perfect for your special occasion!
