Biev is the international extension of our family rug business, and I personally manage the entire project. I enjoy selling vintage carpets because each of them hold history. The craft of the rug artisans has been a go-to profession in the Anatolian area, especially in Oushak, of Turkey ever since the start of the Ottoman empire. Today, these beautiful bohemian, oriental rugs decorate our living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and kitchens.

Each vintage rug holds decades of memories within each knot.

Rug weaving has always been a prominent profession in Turkey. Even though it's not possible to weave vintage rugs in today's day and age due to the high costs of living, artisans have made so many models during the 1960's and 1970's to the point that even after 50 years, we are able to still source these unique and authentic Turkish vintage rugs.

Turkish vintage rugs go through an extensive process to transform their condition. The rugs are first collected from Turkish villages throughout Anatolia. They are then dusted, cropped and washed to fit the aesthetic standards of the 21st century. They are fixed and then put on the market by various vendors.

Turkish vintage rugs have become a great asset for homeowners throughout the world as an important asset for home decor. The carpets are mostly used in living rooms, bedrooms, entryways, kitchens, dining rooms, hallways and nursery rooms. Most of the rugs come from the Oushak region close to Anatolia.

As a family, we have been selling rugs locally to Turkish consumers since 2005. I joined the team in 2016 after graduating from Babson College in Massachusetts and have been selling rugs over the internet ever since.

The most important thing I learned in the past few years is that keeping our customers 100% happy and satisfied with their purchase is the key to growth and long-term success. So all of my efforts are aligned with my goal to make your shopping experience immaculate. My goal is to connect you with affordable but high quality Turkish vintage rugs while paying utmost attention to your overall satisfaction with your shopping experience.

Whether it's just a product-related question or a business development tip; please don't hesitate to send me a message :)

Thanks for reading, and thanks for visiting my shop!

Arda

Can I be sure that the color of the rug in photos will be the same in person?

I do my best to make sure rug colors are represented as accurately as possible.
There may be slight variations in what you see on your computer depending on the screen’s color, contrast, and brightness. Within the product descriptions, I will also note any inherent color variations.
If the color of your new rug is not what you were expecting, I am happy to work with you to get you the color you had envisioned :)

Are your rugs professionally cleaned? Are they ready to use?

All the rugs I sell go through an extensive cleaning process to ensure that the quality is what you expect from a genuine vintage carpet. They are ready to use as soon as you receive them!

My rug has an imperfection. Why?

As vintage pieces, my rugs have natural wear and tear, but I think these imperfections only add to the beauty and timelessness of the rug. You may notice slight discolorations on the underside of the rug, but I ensure that the front-facing design of the rug meets all my standards for quality and does not detract from the overall aesthetic.

Why does my rug have white dots?

Some vintage rugs have visible tie-offs that look like white dots. They are part of the handmade process and occur where weavers tie off strings from the warp that can break during hand-weaving. They do not compromise the integrity of the rug in any way, and can be more pronounced with low-pile shaven rugs.

Antique vs. Vintage?

According to most experts, "vintage" refers to an item 20 to 100 years old. If it is more than 100 years old, it's considered "antique".

How should I clean my rug?

I recommend that you regularly your vintage rug to remove dirt and dust. Depending on how heavily your rug is used, vacuuming just once or twice a month is adequate. Too much vacuuming can wear down the knots and fibers more quickly. Every few months, you’ll also want to flip your rug over and vacuum the back to get the dust out of the foundation of the rug. It also helps to rotate your rug by 180 degrees once a year to ensure even wear over time.

Why should I buy a vintage rug?

For so many reasons! Rug purists love that vintage rugs honor a rich tradition of artisan tapestry makers who meticulously weave and knot a rug by hand. Some purchase vintage because they favor the authenticity and elegance of a gently faded, worn-in look that distinguishes it from “vintage-like” new rugs that have been artificially faded. It’s also viewed as a way to reduce our carbon footprint by reclaiming a rug that is still in perfectly usable condition.
Regardless of the reason, the age and history of a vintage rug make a beautiful statement piece. The traditional handwoven, naturally-dyed process is labor intensive, but produces a rug that in the end is durable and ages gracefully.
