Thank you kindly.

NOTE: *We do not use vermeil headpins in any of our jewelry creations and have nearly phased all gold vermeil components from our jewelry-making process to increase the beauty and longevity of our designs. Vermeil, while less expensive than solid gold or gold-fill, is simply a thin gold-plating over silver. The gold quickly wears off revealing silver (which then blackens over time). Please be assured all headpins used in the creation of Bijoux d'Odalisque jewelry are Sterling silver, gold-fill or solid gold (where stated). Your jewelry will look bright and fresh decades from now - just as the day you purchased it. If a 'Made to-Order' item has been previously photographed with gold vermeil components, we encourage you to have that item made with 14k gold-fill or solid gold in lieu of the original gold vermeil material. Thank you for understanding.

A beautiful pair of pearls in these earrings; blue topaz beads could have been a bit darker blue to be more noticeable but they're still pretty.

The jewelry is not only an amazing work of art - it is a masterpiece! I loved the seller as well. Very informative on her situation as she was unable to make the jewelry at the time. Doing business was phenomenal. An awesome seller :)

About

Origins in a Postcard

I was always an artist, specifically an oil painter. A long while ago I took some time off and traded my pigments for gemstones, my brushes for silver, and began creating lavish gemstone designs.
I discovered as a teenager I was not the first jewelry designer in my family. During the war, in Africa, my Grandfather crudely fashioned rings for his mother and girlfriend out of airplane debris and toothbrush handles. I am delighted I still own this bit of whimsical family history!
When it came time to open my own Etsy shop, I needed to give it a proper name that would define the opulent nature of my merchandise while allowing me a proper ode to the love of painting I still have.
Back in 1997 I returned home from a solo backpacking trip to Europe. I had no money or room for souvenirs so I made sure to grab just one item before departing - a postcard of Ingre's "The Grande Odalisque". It was a particular favorite and I was besotted with seeing the masterpiece face-to-face. The postcard cost .99 cents. When I came home to NY I used my knowledge of custom framing to encase the inexpensive card within a gilded and velvet frame (with my own labor and costs). To me the irony was priceless. As my Etsy shop became more of a reality, I found myself thinking more of the beautiful Odalisque postcard forever preserved behind my ornately constructed frame. At the time the two ideas became the perfect marriage. Hence, Bijoux d'Odalisque Jewelry became the Decadent Gemstone Jewelry "with a whimsical twist". Every day I look at my Grandfather's rings and the .99 cent postcard hanging in my studio and I smile. They are priceless. That is the essence of the labor and love I put into every piece of jewelry I create.

MATERIALS:

All Bijoux d'Odalisque jewelry can be custom designed (or reinterpreted) in the following materials: Sterling silver, oxidized sterling silver (gunmetal), 14k gold-fill, 10k rose gold, and solid gold (white or yellow) in 14k, 18k, 22k. Prices follow suit.

WHOLESALE INQUIRIES:

We offer wholesale discounts to licensed, retail businesses. If you are interested, please contact us directly at BijouxOdalisque [!at] gmail.com to learn more about our wholesale policies.

CARE OF YOUR FINE GEMSTONE JEWELRY:

Please do not submerge your Bijoux d'Odalisque jewelry in cleaning solutions. The proper way to polish your jewelry is to buff the metal surfaces with an appropriately treated silver or gold metal cloth. Gemstones can be buffed to a shine using a soft, non-abrasive cotton or satin cloth (I use a soft cotton T-shirt before photographing.) Please remember, artisan made jewelry is not the same "cookie-cutter", mass produced jewelry you will find in retail chain stores (B-O-R-I-N-G). You are purchasing unique, handmade designs and they require a little extra care and attention. If possible, store your jewelry in the box you received it in. We purchase packaging materials (boxes and tissue paper) specially treated (acid free) to keep your jewelry safe from the environment which can tarnish silver and weaken metal components over the years, particularly if left out in a humid environment. Care for your precious gemstone jewelry and you will enjoy it for many generations to come!
