Excellent reeds! They respond well and sound great! I was very impressed. They even had rainbow-coloured thread, as requested. The maker included a handwritten note. And the order shipped much faster than expected. 10/10 would recommend.

These reeds are an absolute delight. Billy was excellent to communicate with. The reeds themselves are excellent. Free blowing and excellent tone! This is definitely be my go-to resource for reeds!

I love these reeds! This is my second time ordering one and they are fantastic. So easy to break in and barely need adjusting to my bassoon, and they last a long time! The sound is beautiful and clear and they play very well overall. I can’t easily get ahold of reeds in my area so these truly are a lifesaver for me. The wide color selection is also a cool bonus- I loved the colors on my pastel reed and I love my new gold one too! Overall these are great reeds that I’d highly recommend to anyone.

About

This has become a combination of my love for making reeds and my passion for elevating students' performance.

I am a graduate of the University of Delaware who has been making reeds for myself and others for years. I wanted to share my ability and reach out to bassoonists and contrabassoonists everywhere by providing affordable, high quality reeds. Being a bassoon player myself I understand how difficult it can be to find reliable reeds online, that are actually affordable.
All reeds are meticulously hand crafted by me with the intent of easy playing, great intonation, and versatility in sound production. The blanks I provide are worked in enough to be playable throughout but still allow for personal adjustments to be made. The finished reeds are all tested by me and made to have a dark, rich sound while still being free and articulate. The contrabassoon reeds are also finished to with the aim of accurate intonation and a rich, vibrant tone that accentuates the gorgeous low sounds of the instrument.
I hope to provide reliable, affordable, and beautiful reeds to bassoon and contrabassoon players everywhere. I know my reeds will give the player a peace of mind, allowing them to focus on other aspects of their playing. I have also given the option of many different colors of thread to help give each reed a more unique and personal quality for the player.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Custom and personalized orders are definitely possible. Please message me what kind of reed you are currently using and what changes you would like to see from my reeds. I will answer as best I can and we can discuss how exactly you'd like your order to be made.

Care instructions

The tubes that I ship the reeds in can easily be used to either soak or store reeds. Be warned, however, that you cannot store a wet reed in these tubes as it will mold. If you are using them as reed holders make sure the reeds are completely dry before closing the tube.

How do these reeds compare to store bought reeds?

Any handmade reed is better than a factory-made, store-bought reed. I put a lot of care into my reeds to make sure they play better than anything one can buy in a store. I use better quality cane, easier shapes, and personally test each reed before shipping the orders out.

Blank VS Reed

This has been an issue for a number of customers. A blank is a completely unfinished reed; I will wrap it and put wires on but I will ask if you want to tip cut. A blank is unfinished, so no work will be done to the reed, you will need to finish it and cut it on your own. A reed is completely finished and play-tested by me. Unless specifically asked, all bassoon reeds are tested and finished before sending out, unlike blanks.
