Spring / Summer Indigo Shibori Workshops - Melbourne Australia
Binding and Folding
Bind | Fold products are created by Victoria Pemberton, a dyer living and working in Melbourne, Australia.
...
I work predominantly with natural indigo, a dye derived from the leaves of the indigofera tinctoria plant.
Through working with natural dyes, I have discovered new dye techniques and sources, and this work has brought about a new consideration of the mark a person can make on the environment and with the environment.
At the heart of my work is the ethos of striving to care for the world around me, on both an environmental and sociological scale.
My exploration of dyes and techniques are based in tradition, traditional recipes, traditional colours, traditional techniques. I believe in using and giving new life to classic designs and techniques, and creating pieces that wont age with fashion trends.
My work speaks to my lifestyle - I grow some of my own food, I make some of my own clothes, I shop ethically and I respect the craftmanship, skill and time that goes into everything i buy. In turn my lifestyle speaks to my work.
All of my work is created with intent and thoughtfulness, and works are intended to not only be functional, but also to be things of beauty. My designs are considerate of the materials used for each piece, and they are intended to be kept, treasured and passed on to loved ones.
