Announcement   Welcome!

HUMMINGBIRD FEEDERS: All of my hummingbird feeders are modeled in Polymer clay to resemble actual flowers that are used by hummingbirds. Each one is individually crafted to fit snugly into its individual bottle for a tight, leak resistant seal. All are functional works of art used readily by hummingbirds. Just pull the flower from the bottle, fill the bottle with 1 part white sugar to 4 parts water. Hang in your garden, and let the fun begin!

If you don't see what you want, feel free to contact me and I can custom make one (or more!) for you. Custom orders may be subject to extra charges, decided on a case by case basis. Sometimes there is no additional cost, but if I spend extra time tracking down an unusual bottle, or need to do an extra amount of research for a particular flower, it may be necessary to pass that cost on to the customer. If that is the case, I will be sure to discuss clearly with you so we can reach an agreement before the work is undertaken.

BIRD HOUSES:

My acorn bird houses are of high fire stoneware clay, hand thrown and sculpted, each with a specially designed locking roof that can be opened for cleaning. All have dimensions suitable for their intended species. I do not put perches on my houses because they are unnecessary, and may actually allow a predator unwelcome access to the occupants.

The breeding season is over in North America, but a bird house can be hung at any time of year. Hung in the fall, or winter, it may be used as a refuge from cold weather. If you don't see what you want, feel free to contact me with special requests.

The Hummingbirds found it in less than a week. The way the item was packaged and shipped was very adequate, but somehow, one of the petals managed to get broken. I repaired it easily with with super-glue, and the hummers will never know! The quality and realism of the petals are awesome! It is very beautifully made. Thank you

Wonderfully carved sanderlings, each different, each doing what sanderlings do. Beautifully observed and created.

About

A Biology major who shifted into bird illustration, polymer clay, and ceramic work

My shop started in 2008. I was caring for an ailing mother who was in the worsening stages of Parkinson's Disease. I had been a successful illustrator of birds for field guides, but had to drop out of this work to look after my mother's needs.

While caring for her, I began noticing hummingbirds in our garden, and thought it would cheer my mom to see them regularly at our window. I purchased a commercial feeder, but it didn't work! The sugar water solution would not flow down the tube, and although the hummingbirds investigated, they were unable to take a sip. I rummaged through the house until I found a small liquor bottle, attached a red funnel of polymer clay, sized to fit in the opening, and baked to hardness. I wrapped some brass wire around the bottle as a hanger, put it outside our dining room window, and the hummingbirds flocked to it, providing my mother and I with quite a show. I began experimenting with dimensions and shapes and various parameters, refining the feeders to better suit the birds. I began crafting realistic flowers, and as my skills grew, I began to realize their potential as a product.

When I opened my Etsy store in 2008, hummingbird feeders were my first items, but I gradually began including other items like my ceramics, calendars, and flower seeds collected from my garden.

I expect I will continue to add new media as I attempt to capture and share the beauty and elegance of birds. Stay tuned!

Payment
Payment should be as prompt as possible, via Paypal, or personal check. If for some reason, you need to delay your payment, please discuss with me via Etsy conversations and perhaps I can accommodate you!
Shipping
Shipment will be made only after payment is received. I typically ship my hummingbird feeders, seeds, and calendars by USPS First Class Mail. It is the most economical method for lighter weight packages, and is often as fast as Priority, especially for closer destinations.

Packages ship from my home in suburban Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States.

My ceramics and heavier packages will be sent by USPS Priority 2-3 day service. If you need faster service, such as Express Overnight, I am happy to provide that, as long as you are willing to reimburse me for the extra cost.

With domestic (United States) shipments, I always try to have excellent communication with my customers, providing info on when my packages are sent, and also sharing the expected delivery date as stated by the US Postal Service.

I also ship packages internationally, but cannot guarantee an expected delivery date. It is incredibly variable, depending on the destination country, and also how long the item is kept in customs. I ask for patience here, but if the package is not delivered in a reasonable amount of time, (say 2 months, or so) I will promptly refund the purchaser's item and shipping costs upon request. I do my best to keep you informed of shipping dates, and any tracking info, but please do realize that delivery dates can be difficult to predict.

My shipping costs are based on estimates of weight, plus a bit additional to pay for packing materials, boxes, etc. If I find that the customer has overpaid, I will refund an appropriate amount. This often happens with Priority packages with shipping destinations close to western PA, as Priority rates are based on distance, and, to protect myself, my Priority rates are always based on more expensive, distant destinations.
Refunds and Exchanges
If, for any reason, you are dissatisfied with my product, or if it arrives broken, or damaged, or is lost in the mail, I will provide an immediate refund upon request.
Additional policies and FAQs
I am happy to produce custom work. Contact me and I'll be happy to accommodate your needs and desires in any way that I can.
