This ring is a stunner! I knew it would be lovely from the photos, but in person, it completely exceeded my expectations! Not only is the stone absolutely beautiful...the clearest and most colorful citrine I've ever seen...the workmanship on the ring itself is absolutely flawless. Rachel was wonderful to deal with during the recent Etsy payment troubles, and I couldn't believe how quickly the package flew from Nepal to my western USA home. I have already ordered a second ring from this shop and I'm sure I will be back many times in the future!

About

Black Lotus Design began when I came to Kathmandu, Nepal as a volunteer and one day wandered into a metalsmithing workshop. I had been making beaded jewellery for years and always dreamed of learning to work with gold and silver but never knew how to start. With not a word of Nepali I went to a workshop and signed and gestured my way through explaining that I would like to learn to make jewellery. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful and soon I looked forward to going there every day, using only traditional techniques and learning the basics really encouraged my love of making jewellery.

After several years I set up my own workshop in Kathmandu and began creating the wide range of pieces in my shop. I get inspired from so many things from my past and from my present in this beautiful Himalayan city.

Over time I have built up a relationship with an amazing stone supplier who tirelessly sources the rough stones I want and cuts them in his own workshop so I can ensure that the work standards are high and the people cutting my stones are well treated. I buy all my metal from a supplier here that the entire metalsmithing community trusts. I have been buying from the same place for seven years now. It is hard to source recycled metal here but I always aim for at least 70% recycled metal in all my jewellery.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

I really enjoy custom orders, feel free to contact me if you would like adjustments on a piece in the shop or you would like to work with me on something new.

I'm afraid I cannot make jewellery with customers stones, if there is a specific stone you would like please ask and I will do my best to find it. I have access to a huge amount of stones here.
