About BlackOrchidAtelier

Sales 710
On Etsy since 2012

Black Orchid Atelier creates one of a kind historical costumes, accessories and patterns.

Some would say the sewing was in my blood. My great grandfather was a tailor and my great grandmother a seamstress! My grandparents and parents instilled in us the love of history. Taking those two loves I realized I could make some of those beautiful gowns seen in museums and paintings. As a teacher I could surprise my students with a 'first' hand experience with some one of the era.

As an avid history lover and costumer, there's nothing like hearing the swish of crisp petticoats or seeing the curve of the waist in a well fitted gown.

Who doesn't want to feel like a princess at one point?

With every ensemble I attempt to create a one of a kind look and experience. No two ensembles are exactly alike.

I research used style options and provide those (extant pictures) to you my customer so your ensemble will be truly 'yours'.

As a at home mom; I have taken my love of history, sewing and pretty things and decided to offer my services to those on a budget and who want to experience a little bit of history. This allows me to enjoy my work and spend time with my daughter and son on my terms.

Thank you for visiting!

I can't wait to create your one of a kind historical costume or couture girls dress!

From a young age sewing fascinated me and I dabbled in small projects both at home and school. Soon I realized, that with my love of history I could MAKE historical clothing! As a history teacher my class loved it when a time traveler came to visit!
