About

BlackWater has brought me back!

My grandfather was a woodworker, my Dad's a woodworker - I grew up watching and learning from them. I have been a home improvement contractor/builder for most of my adult life with very little time to pursue the craft I love so much.

BlackWater is what we call our little 5 acre wooded paradise in SW Ohio. When we bought it in 2005 it was so thickly wooded we could hardly walk through it. We came up with the name because of all the black stones in the creek that runs through the property, and because in the fall the Walnuts drop off the trees into the water and turn it black!

I had to clear over 350 trees to build our home here, many of them Walnut, Black Cherry, Ash, Red Cedar, Hackberry, White Pine, and even a few Ohio Buckeyes and Hickories. While most of it went to the firewood stack, I was able to save a few logs for the sawmill.

The process began in 2005 with clearing a few paths, planning the homesite, designing the house, more clearing,…….. construction began in late 2008. In late 2009 we moved into the house, and I had already commandeered the walk-out basement as my shop!

I still do the building/remodeling work as I'm called to, but every chance I get I'm in my shop doing what I love to do - working with wood! I have done custom work throughout the midwest US, sent custom pieces as far as the UK and Australia, and have even made "props" for a well-known production in Hollywood - Iron Man III! If you've seen that movie, you've seen my work!

I look forward to the day when I can spend all my time in my shop making pieces that people all over the world have loved, and getting inspiration to make more interesting things as time goes by.
