What sets our work apart from other horseshoe artists is Steve's distinctive style, coupled with his attention to detail (clean lines, proportioned & balanced, no ugly welds). His skills have been fine-tuned over 35+ yrs of blacksmithing & metal working. If Steve isn't happy with his work for you, he doesn't let it out of his shoppe. If you're not happy with the result, we'll correct it to your satisfaction.

Each order will have slight variations, because everything is handmade 4 U. Photos shown are examples, not exactly the same. Our times are lovingly created and handmade in the US, not NOT factory made on a shelf. We use only authentic, new, clean horseshoes and railroad spikes made in America. Your orders is created & forged in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California.

BlacksmithCreations specializes in creating unique, custom horseshoe art keepsakes, which are carefully crafted to CELEBRATE EVENTS OF LIFE, both personal and professional. We only sell online, so we keep the expenses down to provide you better prices for quality gifts. Let's co-create something together to tell your story. We appreciate you!

***ENGRAVING can include longer names, dates, coordinates (longitude/latitude), hashtags, or logos. Old fashioned hand stamping can only accommodate about 8 letters/numbers. Engraving gives you more flexibility and a neat, clean look. Engraving will accept more characters because font sizes are flexible.
RECOMMENDATION: ALL CAPITAL LETTERS works best for names, for legibility and clarity. (print your in the comments box, as CAPS so we know that you know!). Ask any question we'll try hard to make it happen.

IF YOU DON'T SEE WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR, please ASK (you can also use the search button in our shop for ideas). If it's an anniversary gift, you can use the search box, type in "anniversary" and more ideas will come up. You can use most anything we create as an anniversary, wedding, retirement, or birthday gift.

**IRON & STEEL ANNIVERSARIES... Horseshoes are made from iron. Iron is mixed with certain other metals with heat, to form steel in creating horseshoes. That's why they are perfect for BOTH traditional anniversary gifts of iron and steel. NEW means no icky manure or dirt in creases of the shoe, that you might find in used shoes. Crisp, clean, and worthy of a gift to others and to yourself.
They are upcycled real horseshoes. No cast iron knockoffs or replicas here....
***NOTE: Even new horseshoes are inherently rough and some of that rustic-ness remains in each piece. They may look like slight imperfections, because it's the nature of the material ... differences add character and originality to each unique piece, with perfect imperfections! There will be slight variations in size, shape, or color from what you might see in the pictures, as each is handmade for you by Steve.

About

Celebrate life's special moments with Steve's blend of art, science, craft, passion & love of metalworking.

BlacksmithCreations is a husband and wife team located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mtns. in Northern California. Steve creates unique, delightful & functional horseshoe art, which is carefully crafted to celebrate the events of life.
It's these heartwarming experiences that Steve loves to create at his forge.

WHY US? Attention to detail is the key..... notice the sizing, spacing, proportions, clean welds, and placement of the crevices on each horseshoe piece. Welding blobs are filed away, horseshoes are sanded, joints are perfectly matched, letters are proportioned, even the backside of the shoes are finished. Items are all well thought out, to make a beautiful keepsake to give or keep. We use professional engraver and powder coater to our hand created pieces to get the best results.

LET'S CO-CREATE something memorable together to tell your story. If you don't see what you are looking for, PLEASE ASK. We are a custom shop and welcome your ideas. We are honored to create something that means something to you.
Steve's handmade creations are worthy as a gift to a bride & groom, as an anniversary present to honor your partner, or a memorial to remember your horse.

If Steve isn't happy with his work for you, he doesn't let it out of his shoppe. He is the only craftsman here, so he maintains quality control of his products. If you're not happy, we'll correct it. Period.

This is about knowing who made your product, and that it was crafted by hand, rather than by machine in an overseas factory. In addition to our handmade items being meticulously crafted & of high quality, we believe in creating only the best & putting in an honest day's work for you. We believe our handmade products will standout in the world of mass produced things.

MADE IN AMERICA by a veteran... Steve creates & fabricates his unique products from new American-made steel horseshoes from crisp, clean shoes (read: NO icky manure in creases of horseshoes). Horseshoes are made from the element of iron & mixed with other metals become steel, so perfect or 6th or 11th anniversaries.
Steve developed his craftsmanship, talents, and skills from his 3+ decades experience as a metalworker and problem solver for a robust community college in CA. His skills are based on the foundation of hard work, with attention to details that were instilled in him by his Italian grandfather and great uncle, Nono Joe and Uncle Tulio.

YEAR #1 ... After only 6 months here, Etsy approached us & asked if we were interested in providing a sample campfire trivet for a Sunset Magazine photo shoot. This was our first signature product! Our campfire stand was one of the 20 featured item in their holiday issue, "Made in the West" Sunset article (Dec. 2011, pg. 20). We are grateful to both Etsy and Sunset Magazine for recognizing our work (which was unsolicited by us)! We are now almost in our 7th year with Etsy & still loving it!

BACKGROUND: Steve is a member of ABANA (American Blacksmith Assoc. of North America) and CBA (California Blacksmith Association). Both are active & growing organizations that further the craft of metal. He attends CBA demonstrations to continue to improve his techniques & develop new ideas to share with you. We enjoyed the biennial National Blacksmith Assoc. Education Convention in Salt Lake City in July 2016, with a few new tools & ideas for you. Never stop learning is his motto! New ideas come from your requests!

LOCAL HISTORY... we live only a few miles away from the Empire Mine State Park in Grass Valley, CA. The State Park has a great blacksmith shop, and we've donated some antique equipment to their shop!
The mine was one of the largest, deepest, longest operating and richest hard rock gold mines around - producing nearly 6 million ounces of gold. The blacksmith shop supported the hard rock gold miners back in the day. When you are in the area, consider visiting Empire Mine State Park in Grass Valley, CA (between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe)
There will be a Blacksmithing Hammer-In on May 19 & 20, 2017, nearby, at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, Grass Valley, CA. Some well known demonstrators in the industry will be there. See you there! Grass Valley is about 1 hour from the Sacramento area.

Frequently asked questions

Timing & PLAN B to bridge the creative process

Our shoppe is primarily custom & personalized orders. Time to create approx. 3-4 weeks ... sometimes longer. If you need it faster, we have your back. PLAN B !!!!!

"Plan B" helps! At YOUR request, we email you an un-engraved photo of your order, which you can print & include in your card.
Get creative:
+ Import the picture into Photoshop or Powerpoint to create your custom certificate, with personal sentiments.
+ Wrap the picture in a box to provide the gift giving experience!

FEEDBACK for "Plan B"
1- "You made me look good!"
2-"I gave Mark & Julie their present virtually yesterday on their anniversary..they loved it!!"
3- "I LOVE the "Plan B" option for those of us who wait until the last minute to decide what to buy!"

Horseshoe sizing details

Size is of horseshoe is approx. 4.5” tall x 5.5” wide & weighs about 11 oz.. Size of area to engrave at the bottom of the shoe is 1.5 - 1.75 inches long. Can vary slightly.

We use only NEW horseshoes so they are clear, crisp, and look great. No icky manure stuck in the creases of the shoes!
All horseshoes are made in North America.

Finish & Care instructions

New horseshoes are rough from the casting process & some of that rustic-ness remains in each piece. Horseshoes will have slight imperfections.

Best results: keep the surface free of greasy fingerprints. Oil & grease can potentially damage the shiny finish. Handling the piece on the edges keeps your art in the best shape. Powder coated finishes are most durable over time.
Finger prints can usually be buffed away with a soft dry rag, like a thick pile micro-fiber cloth so it does not scratch the surface. If you want to refinish it, then an abrasive would be appropriate.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Gift wrapping, packaging, mailing to another address

We do not gift wrap unless asked, because most people want to see their order before they gift it. If you'd like gift wrapping, there is a nominal charge of $5.00.

We will ship directly to your recipient and happy to send you a picture to you for approval before we ship. I would want that option if I was buying something to be sent to someone else. At your request, we will add a note with your sentiments, at no extra charge. Let us know in the comments.

We ship via USPS Priority Mail which is 3 business day delivery to your mailbox in most areas in the US. We ship internationally, via airmail or Priority Mail.

Why should I buy from you? Quality craftsmanship & attention to detail

Quality & attention to detail is key. Made from new, crisp shoes.
Notice the sizing, spacing, proportions, clean welds, & placement of the creases on each horseshoe piece. Well thought out, which makes a beautiful keepsake to give or keep.
Welding blobs are filed away, horseshoes are sanded, joints are matched, letters are proportional, even the inside of the shoes are finished.

We partner with professional engravers, to provide the best for your custom piece. Engraving allows longer names, dates & sentiments than hand stamping.

If Steve isn't happy with his work, he doesn't let it out of his shoppe. He is the only craftsman here, so he maintains quality control of his products. If you're not happy, we'll correct it. Period.

Custom Requests... We love co-creating with you!

How to add engraving & comments to us during the order process

The comments box appears towards the end of the checkout process. There you can add your engraving request (ALL CAPS for words and shortened dates for best outcome), your special instructions, your timing, if you need Plan "B", and your phone number (in case I can't reach you via Etsy email).

You should know that we partner with professional engravers, to provide the best for your custom piece. Engraving allows longer names, dates & sentiments than hand stamping, because the font size can be controlled. Engraving also looks cleaner and neater.

What is powder coating & why should I care?

Powder coating gives you one of the longest lasting finishes available. Environmentally, it emits near "0" volatile organic compounds (VOC). It produces a thicker coating to withstand humidity and finger prints. It's neat, clean, and will last a long time.
