A Magpie Who Makes

Sitting down to write this has made me realise how lucky I was as a child to be surrounded by creative people. Not that some of them would have considered themselves as such, but creative there were none-the-less. And something they all had in common, from the home baker that was my grand-mother who would produce soul-nurturing food for her family and elaborate and delicious cakes for weddings and christenings and birthdays, the grand-father gardener who would also build from salvage, the painter and the all round creative crafty aunts, was their use of the materials and ingredients available around them.

It's an important feature of my jewellery work to use things that are available to me already - to thrift - to re-see and re-use objects that have been passed on by their original owners.

Being enamoured of a great many influences - the exotic, the romantic, the eclectic and the other-worldly - my art as a jeweller is always developing and using techniques that I learn from others and that I teach myself as I play I am constantly looking for ways in which I can assist others to adorn themselves in a manner that befits their natures.

As a child I would experiment with making; clothes, jewellery, decorative items of all kinds, and my fascination with making beautiful things has not abated to this day. My first sales can from markets and craft fairs, and even when I travelled in Australia for a year I would still make and sell my items at local markets. This shop is my current store-front and I'm as interested as you are to see where my creative travels take me.
