Announcement   Each of my pieces are carefully designed and created with great passion. I strive to make jewelry that is unique, or even a bit unusual, but I always pay attention to ergonomics, comfort, and durability. I particularly enjoy applying the finishing touches to my pieces, and even though many of them look rough the surface textures are the result of very careful and detailed work. My choice of material always depends on the particular piece that I want to create. I am drawn primarily to metals, both precious and non-precious, but I also enjoy working with marble, Plexiglas, wood, bone, and whatever else I can get my hands on. Of all of these my favorite material is iron (or mild steel). I really enjoy the way iron looks, the way it behaves when I am forming it, and even its fragrance.
My pieces often reference traditional or ethnic jewelry, but are approached from a different point of view. I am inspired by historic artifacts, tools and architecture; objects that represent the struggle to survive and to leave something behind. I like simple, geometric forms, and iron especially gives me such great opportunities to play with those shapes and their variations. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions! For custom orders I am also available for skype appointments which I think is the most effective way to discuss details.

Enjoy my shop! Thank you for your interest! :)

While this isn't the first piece I've ordered from János, it happens to be the first custom piece that I've ordered from him. I'm very satisfied with how everything went from the beginning. He was very detail oriented and asked all the right questions before and during the process. He made sure it was exactly how I wanted it to be and didn't do anything without consulting me. He is truly a genius in his craft and I will look to him for any custom jewelry in the future.

Beautiful and unusual ring, incredibly well-made and shipped super-fast. I'm a big fan -- thank you, Janos!

About

Blind Spot Jewellery

I was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1976. I graduated as an agronomist in 2002. Until I lived in my country of origin, my passion was animal breeding and ethnography. I did a 10 years long research on the ethnomedicine of animals, involving wonderful, exciting journeys in Transylvania, Ukraine and the Hungarian countryside. The time I spent working with pheasants, shepherds made a deep impact on me: the wisdom of those people, the way they work materials, the way they face the life.
First of all I learnt: there are no „simple people”. We are all bloody complicated.
And... the most beautiful finish on metal is the one a shiny scythe has at the end of the summer.

Then I left Hungary for England where I lived for nearly 3 years, this is where I started to make jewellery. As I spoke very bad English, jewellery become the way of expressing myself.
Starting a new life I become a farm worker, later cheese maker.

Searching for my home I left England and I emigrated to Italy. Here I started again from the beginning, without the knowledge of the language, place. I worked for two years as a goat herd, forest worker when finally I managed to become a full time jeweller. I have my own workshop in a small village in the mountains near to Genoa.

In my jewellery I recall desire and power. I want to give you the same feeling, like the little child feels, when he buckles on his plastic sword, and he thinks that he is powerful. That is a serious thing! It is natural, and we never outgrow it, at best we might deny it. But we are big guys/girls now, we are not allowed to do that anymore… Still, art often gives you similar power just simple with colors, shapes, voices. If you can wear these artifacts, I call them amulets, and that power will stay with you all the day, every day.
