5 out of 5 starsThe product was as described and was shipped in a completely recyclable/compostable container. I liked the bit of corn husk that cushioned the tubes. I'm looking forward to using this juniper ash with my next pot of beans!

About BlueCornCustmDesigns
Indigenous Owned and Operated
Hello, I'm Rochelle L. Garcia. I grew up on and off the Dine Nation. My maternal roots are from Tó Dínéeshzheeʼ (Kayenta, Arizona) and my paternal relatives are Numu (Northern Paiute) from the great basin area of Stillwater, Nevada. My family and I currently reside on the ancestral lands of the O’odham people currently known as Queen Creek, Arizona, and I am affiliated with the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe.
I create handmade, eco-friendly gifts that contain elements from Indigenous culture. BCCD was founded in 2019 on Indigenous People's Day. We sold corn husk flowers and centerpieces and have since expanded into blue corn cookies, cakes, and traditional home goods. With Blue Corn Custom Designs, we bring home to you, wherever it is needed. We sell traditional foods and decor for special occasions: blue, yellow, and white corn cookies, Navajo-Hopi tea, juniper ash, underground steamed corn, custom-designed candles, corn husk flowers, and centerpieces.
Corn is very sacred. Growing up off and on the reservation, my father always had a garden, and no matter if we lived in the city or on the rez, there was always corn. For me, it continues to be a reminder of my family, my roots, and especially those who are no longer with us on this earth.
We acknowledge the spiritual importance of the items we harvest, as many of the items we create are needed for ceremonies and special occasions.
My grandfather came from a line of medicine men and I am fortunate to have witnessed Dine’ ceremonies and learned the importance of corn and its many uses. My father was an artist who used several mediums to express, honor, and teach our Numu (Northern Paiute) traditions. As a descendant of the late Wuzzie and Jimmy George, we learned the important work our great-grandparents had in preserving Numu traditions, through the making of tule boats, baskets, cattail houses, and duck decoys. With the help of an anthropologist, their works can be seen in books and in many museums. I serve as a mentor for other up-and-coming Indigenous shops on Etsy, helping with guidance on entrepreneurship.
Blue Corn Custom Designs is an Indigenous women-owned family business representing Dine' (Navajo Nation), Numu (Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe) and the Tohono O’odham Nation. I make crafts to connect with our indigenous way of life. Every item you purchase is respectfully harvested, collected, prepared, and packaged with good intentions.
