About

Blue Fennel Vintage: a journey of rediscovery

I got the idea for opening my shop the summer I was visiting vintage shops looking for my wedding dress. I remembered how much I had loved visiting thrift stores and dressing up as a kid. However, in the years since my childhood (through junior high, high school, college, and graduate school), I had abandoned my own sense of style, and in some ways my sense of self, in an effort to conform and be liked by others.

My marriage was part of a challenging, personal journey I was taking in owning who I was and what I wanted from life, and as part of that journey, I decided it was time to rediscover my love of vintage, and I haven't looked back!

In my spare time, if I'm not at thrift stores or flea markets, you'll find me at the post office, in my bathroom handwashing clothing, or on my computer researching or editing photos. I'm blessed to be doing things I love (teaching and running an online business), and I'm also blessed to have a husband who lets clothing take over the spare bedroom and most of the closet space in our two bedroom condo, and who lets me go thrifting even on our vacations together.

It's been a fun and interesting journey the last few years, and I'm ready for the next steps!

Shop policies

Last updated on December 3, 2013
Welcome to my etsy shop! I am excited to share my finds with fellow vintage lovers.
When I acquire items for my shop, I buy items that I love and could see myself owning and wearing. I see my shop as an extension of my own vintage collection that I am lucky to be able to share with others.

All the measurements provided in the shop are measurements of the items. In order to figure out if a vintage item will fit you, start by taking your own measurements and compare them against the measurements in the listings. Depending on how the garment is meant to fit, you may want to be looking for something very close to your measurements (i.e. a fitted 50s hourglass dress), or something with larger measurements (i.e. a 70s peasant dress). The *best* way to know if a piece of clothing will fit you is to measure a few garments in your closet of a similar style and compare measurements.

If you are ever uncertain about fit or want to know if an item has extra seam or hem allowance, feel free to contact me!

Payment
I accept paypal and etsy direct checkout (which accepts major credit cards). Items must be paid for at the time of order. If you'd like to reserve an item, you may do so for 48 hours. I will consider longer reserves or layaways with a deposit. Please contact me for more details.
Shipping
I will ship within 2-4 business days of receiving an order. I ship priority mail with delivery confirmation in the United States and first class international mail. If you'd like me to ship via another method, feel free to contact me prior to purchase.

Insurance is included in the shipping cost of all items. For items to be covered by insurance, I must ship to the address you provide me through paypal and etsy checkout. International customers: if your country is not covered by my insurance carrier, I reserve the right to cancel the sale.

If what you pay me for shipping is over $2 what it actually costs me to ship the item, I will refund the difference.

I do ship internationally, though I refuse the right to cancel orders or require Priority shipping to countries my insurance company does not cover or countries with significant customs difficulties.

International customers, please check your country's customs policies before purchasing any items from me. You are responsible for any customs fees or taxes imposed by your country. I cannot refund in cases where you refuse to pay duty fees or in cases where you do not receive an item because it cannot be shipped into your country. Also, if I am aware of customs restrictions for your country, I will not ship prohibited items. If you have any questions about customs policies or fees, please contact your local post office.

Additionally, it is considered fraud, punishable by fines and criminal prosecution, to mark the customs forms as "gift" or for a lesser amount than what you paid. They will be marked truthfully as "merchandise" and with the amount paid for the item, not including shipping.
Refunds and Exchanges
I want you to be happy with your purchase, so if there are any issues, please contact me before leaving anything less than positive feedback!

I will accept returns on a limited basis. I do my best to show and describe items as accurately as possible, but if there's ever a problem (item is significantly not as described, etc.), please contact me, so that we can work out a solution. Also, I know that sometimes despite detailed measurements, items just don't look or fit the way you expected them to--if that happens, let me know within 5 days of receipt of item, and I will accept a return for store credit as long as the item is returned in the same condition it was sent. Store credit cannot be applied to shipping costs, and the buyer will be responsible for return shipping costs.

If you would like additional information on an item before purchasing it (additional pictures, measurements, etc.) to make sure that the item will work for you, please send me a message.
Additional policies and FAQs
I do my best to describe all significant flaws, but vintage clothing will have some signs of wear and may have small flaws that I miss.

All items come from a smoke-free environment. I have two cats, but all items are professionally cleaned or lovingly handwashed before being stored away from the cats. However, there is no way to guarantee that items are allergen free. Also, while I do clean all items, they may also need to be aired out because of long time storage.

All of my items are authentic vintage items, and I am committed to do my best to accurately represent the origins (time period, brand, etc.) of the vintage clothing I sell.
