BlueFlaxStudio's Shop Announcement

I love color and texture - both of which are expressed in my fiber products and paintings in a rather consistent style and color palette.

I’ve been spinning for 5 years and have moved from prepared rovings to working exclusively with top quality fleeces. Nothing is finer than the long staple wools: Coopsworth, Romney, Targhee, Border/Blue Leicester , Merino , Alpaca, Icelandic. In my search for these fleeces, I concentrate on small family-run farm operations. Most of my fleeces have won blue ribbons in county fairs. I want my fibers to come from sheep with NAMES and, most importantly, humanely treated animals.

My fleece fibers are washed with mild soap, locks opened and teased, colored, drum-carded or hand-carded, pulled into thin rovings and spun. Fibers/yarns are solar dried. No weights are used on the yarns so they retain their bounce and liveliness. I do use acid (vinegar) dyes so there is still more to learn and master. All of this is labor intensive and pleasurable, and the price of these skeins reflect all the hand labor. They are not overprocessed and will be a new knitting experience for you! These skeins are definitely OOAK.

My needle felted pieces use up my excess fibers and mimic my painting style.

I'm now adding some of artwork to my shop. I love doing oil pastels - plein air - in the countryside around my home. I have a growing collection and they also need a new home! These are originals.

My other interests include gardening, painting, photography and travel. I’ve adopted 3 Italian Greyhound puppymill mommas rescued after 6 years of horrendous living conditions. My iggys are now free and goofy and have no interest in my fiber collection.

My Etsy shop came into being after my 2 grown daughters insisted I pass on some of my creations ---- to free up some room in the guestroom!

Hope you find something that will be just right for your project or your home or as a special gift.
