Announcement   I paint watercolors on location, outdoors, in the moment. Quite a challenge for scenes of deep wilderness - and I hope you enjoy the results. The flowers are real too. And yes, I sometimes paint from photographs. _ Kim Solga, author of the new book "The Everything Guide to Selling Arts and Crafts Online" - sellingartsandcraftsonline.com

I travel from the mountains and rivers of the American West to Alaska, northern Canada, Hawaii, Grand Canyon, New Zealand, Europe, Mexico.

My work takes place in the wilderness…watercolors capturing a moment in the timeless flow of river water, glacier ice, the slow growth of pine, the bloom of wildflower. I paint on location, perched on a boulder beside whitewater rapids. I sketch from a bed of pine needles beneath a spruce, surrounded by snowbanks, a raven watching from a branch overhead. I climb high onto the mountain, above treeline, into the silent song of bare rocks in late summer. My paintings reflect the conditions I find each day, fast drying washes in bright sunshine, splatters of raindrops between storms, rock dust added to paint. My pigments are mixed with river water, the seeping trickles of a mountain spring, drops of melting ice.

Every item in my shop, original painting or print, is lovingly handcrafted by me, Kim Solga, in my northern California studio.

Wholesale inquiries and international customers are very welcome. If you seek a unique painting of your own favorite location or flower, please feel free to convo me with your ideas.

About

There's a truth I discover when painting in the wilderness - a truth that extends into my paintings and on to all who view, like and buy my work.

I love to paint outdoors - in the wilderness...perched on a boulder beside whitewater rapids. Sitting on a bed of pine needles, surrounded by snowbanks, with a raven watching from the branch overhead. I climb mountains, above treeline to paint the bare rocks of late summer. And sometimes I simply walk out into my garden and plop down to sketch a flower.

I travel as far and as often as I can into the wild places of the American West, Canada, Alaska, and around the world to create the paintings in my BlueOtterArt shop.

Follow my adventures! Visit my website at solga.com or click the Facebook button.

Paintings done from real life are unique. They capture a moment in time and a freshness that you just don't get painting from a photograph. My watercolors are painted with river water from the eddy at my feet, from a mountain spring, or the last swallow from my waterbottle. There are plenty of challenges working outdoors. Sunshine beating down, or passing storms pelting my painting with raindrops. Shadows constantly moving. And bugs! You don't even want to hear about the bugs.

But the truth is worth the effort! I welcome you to Blue Otter Art, and hope you discover a painting or print that you would like to favorite, to share with your circles, and perhaps to buy for yourself.

I live in the mountains of northern California at the foot of Mount Shasta, one of the highest peaks in the USA. I travel often into the wilderness, rafting rivers, hiking, exploring foreign lands, and I paint everywhere I go!
