About

Linda Starr Pottery - Hand Built Studio Pottery

As a lavender farmer ten years ago I decided to take a pottery class to make a few unique vases to display my flowers. After taking several semesters of ceramics at my local college I fell in love with clay. Ever since then I've been experimenting with all the aspects of ceramics. My passion grew and grew. I read as much as I could and started a pottery blog to document my progress. Primarily self taught, I design and hand build each piece in my studio. My pottery is hand glazed with food safe glazes keeping in mind individual aesthetics. Nature, landscape, flora and fauna inspire my work. I tend to work in a series enhancing and refining the design till I move on to the next design series.

Welcome to my pottery shop! I'm a clay artist and my work is all hand made and fired in my kiln. I use slabs of clay or pinching methods to construct my stoneware. This method takes a little longer but the final results reflect the time I take making the piece. Variations in surface, shape, and size are considered desirable in hand made pottery, what's called wabi sabi, slightly imperfect, not made from a mold in a factory. If you don't see a piece you are looking for please contact me, I may have something similar in my studio.

My work is influenced by nature, architecture and my travels. I take my time in the design and making process and feel the results are worth it in the long run. For some pieces I hand brush the clay with colored slips (stained liquid clay) or hand carve or use tools or found objects to texture the clay, then I bisque fire the piece add glaze and refire again to stoneware temperatures. Many times I don't know what I'll make till I sit down in my studio and start working, other times I draw a sketch or leaf through my journals for ideas I've sketched. I enjoy making each piece and hope you enjoy my pottery.
