About

Country girl on a high fiber diet

I learned to crochet as a child from my paternal grandmother. She probably just wanted to keep me busy and out of her hair. I didn't crochet much, though, until becoming a young mom. I made lots of baby blankets but didn't think of doing much else for years.

About eight years ago, I discovered that working with fiber was my happy place. I went back to crochet for scarves and wraps and learned to spin on a drop spindle. Pretty soon, I found myself in a yarn shop drooling over gorgeous sock yarn. While it's possible to crochet socks, I wanted to knit them.

In November of 2012, I sat down with knitting needles, yarn and an online video. I managed to knit my very first stitch! Once I could knit and purl, I set my sights on making socks. The first one never even got a mate; it was that bad. But I kept at it and three years later, I've made 30+ pairs of socks.

Now, I am fascinated by the process of dying my own yarn. I love to watch the colors develop in the dye bath or play together as I hand paint a skein. This is definitely my happy place and I invite you to join me.
