We moved to the country when I was 5, and I was surrounded by beautiful things each day. We lived on a hill, that felt like a mountain to me, where the sky was big, the wind blew strong, the clouds were bold and changing everyday. The first things I drew with colored pencils, were birds that I saw out my window at a bird feeder. They seemed enchanting to me, colorful creatures that could spread their wings and fly away. I wanted to fly away too, a lonely child, with pain few knew about. I felt compelled to color them on paper as it seemed something in their beauty connected with me. I had to create them, or at least reflect what I saw the Creator had created.
Almost six decades later, having suffered, survived, and recovered from great loss and pain, what still calls to me is this Beauty straight from the heart of God. The Light He created forms colors brilliant when bathed in it. The smallest things, drenched in light and color somehow blesses me and I find healing in expressing them.
Some of these pendants contain portions of large oil paintings of mine, painted when I needed to see the light, as the darkness was surrounding me years ago. They are beacons of hope to me reminding me of the power of beauty...girls in fields, bright florals, sheep in pastures, beaches and boats, horses and colts ,and lately, back to my first love ,watercolors of birds and puppies and kittens. Angel designs for Christmas, a train, a tractor, trees at the river, a zebra, or roosters, all fascinate me with the endless beauty in color and light. These little gems are set under domed glass, which magnifies the images and also makes them look almost 3D when viewed from the side. They are in 30" chains in silver or bronze, but you can shorten then by simply clasping them higher up on the chain.
My prayer is that each one will be a blessing of beauty for whoever wears it, a reminder of the beauty God created in each of us, but more so that they reflect the Beautiful One Himself, the Creator, who created all things for His pleasure.
May these treasures bless you and the ones you send the to as well.
