Announcement    April 2020: The Poupetterie is open for business as my studio is in my home, and my local Post Office is just a short walk away. Fortunately, we are in good health and the rural county where I live is enforcing especially strict precautions. I am continuing my normal work schedule and have been able to make things I haven't had time for in the past few years. The only change is that I am no longer requiring Signature Confirmation for delivery, so please be sure to keep an eye on your tracking.
Also, due to the delay of wedding season this year, I have more openings for custom requests and can accommodate shorter turnarounds, so please contact me if you have anything in mind. Wishing you all good health and peace of mind.
Love, Sofie and the Poupettes

About BonjourPoupette

Sales 3,789
On Etsy since 2010

Welcome to the Menagerie of Inscrutable Magic

"Bonjour Poupette" is what your French fairy godmother says every time she greets you, with a smile on her face.

"Bonjour Poupette" could be translated as "Hello Little One" but to me it means that you are recognized and loved, right now, for all that you are.

And yes, "Bonjour Poupette" is a menagerie of enchanting little animal people - 'Habitants délicats des forêts de nous-memes. (Sensitive inhabitants of the forests of ourselves.)' - Jules Supervielle

My Poupettes are spirited renditions of animal people and other magical creatures. Every figurine has a unique personality that emerges as I work, which truly makes them one-of-a-kind. Indeed, they have evolved over time and will certainly continue to do so. This is why I take the time to photograph each figurine, list them individually and only make items to order by request. I list new figurines regularly and make a limited number of custom orders each month.

Each figurine is made one at a time, by hand. I sculpt them with a premium, non-toxic, heat-cured, polymer-based modeling compound. I custom blend the polymer with pigment, mica, and metallic leaf to create unique colors and textures. Although polymer can be painted, I prefer the challenge of creating color variations through meticulous layering and blending of the material itself and rarely use paint. Properly cured polymer is an exquisite archival material and you can expect your Poupette to endure for generations.

Bonjour Poupette was a Featured Shop on the Etsy Blog: https://blog.etsy.com/en/2015/featured-shop-bonjour-poupette/

I've been honored to have photos of my figurines published in Mollie Makes Woodland Friends, and Polymer Clay: Global Perspectives.

Frequently asked questions
Do you accept custom and personalized orders?

Yes, I accept a limited number of custom orders every month. I require payment to schedule the shipping date and I send photos when it is completed. Please contact me for more information.

By the way, I do not make anything shaggy or bristly, nor animals with complex markings, as they do not look good in my style (I wish they did!). I also never, ever copy other people's ideas, so please don't ask - thanks! ^_^

Can I place this sculpture directly on a cake without an additional base?

Yes, my figurines are made of a professional-grade, non-toxic polymer and do not require toxic paints or varnishes, because the pigment is permanently suspended in the polymer. Therefore, they can stand directly on a cake. They are also waterproof, and can be carefully hand-washed with a gentle soap as needed.

Why do you require Signature Confirmation? What if I'm not at home to receive the package?

APRIL 2020: I AM TEMPORARILY SUSPENDING SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION FOR DOMESTIC FIRST-CLASS AND PRIORITY MAIL PACKAGES. (Signature confirmation is normally required for all shipments to prevent theft. If you are unable to be at home to sign for the package, I recommend keeping an eye on the tracking, and once a delivery attempt has been made, go to your local post office with the tracking number to pick it up. Back in the day USPS used to leave notices and attempt re-delivery, but this has become rare in recent years, and I wouldn't count on it.)

How long will it take for my order to ship?

I ship all orders (with the exception of custom and express mail orders) within 3 days of purchase. If you are on a tight deadline, or purchase express shipping - please contact me directly and I'll get it out ASAP. Otherwise, I ship Mondays and Thursdays, with the exception of USPS holidays, when I ship the next day.

Can you tell me more about shipping to U.S. addresses?

'Free Shipping' to U.S. addresses is USPS First Class Mail, which takes from 2-5 business days.

All of my shipments include a USPS Tracking Number which is automatically sent via e-mail as soon as the package has shipped.

Signature Confirmation is required to discourage theft.

If you purchase Priority Mail shipping, your package will automatically be insured up to $100 and the delivery window is 2-3 business days.

Priority Mail Express Shipping is available for purchase at checkout and takes 2 business days, unless you live in Portland, OR (which will be next day delivery).

Do you include paper invoices in your packages?

You will receive a digital invoice/receipt for your order through Etsy. For packages shipped within the U.S., I do not include a paper invoice, but if you would like one, just let me know and I'll be happy to include one. I am required by law to include 1-3 paper invoices with the purchase price in my packages for all international orders.

Do you ship internationally? What do I need to know?

Yes, I regularly ship internationally.

Be advised that actual transit times vary by destination and are not guaranteed by the Postal Service.

I urge international buyers to be aware of how your local Customs and Postal Service operates before making a purchase. Most countries will charge their own duty and/or import fees that I have no knowledge of, or responsibility for.

In my experience, parcels shipped to countries in Central America, South America and Africa can take up to four months to arrive. I highly recommend purchasing Express Mail shipping at checkout, which will expedite shipping.

Can you mark my item as 'Gift' or alter the cost on the customs form?

No, I absolutely will not mark international items as "gifts" or alter the cost of goods. All customs forms are are automatically created through USPS and Etsy. They are accurately labeled 'Merchandise' with the actual cost of the item in compliance with international law. I cannot predict nor can I be responsible for delays in customs or any additional fees or taxes that may be charged by your local jurisdiction.

In the event of damage, what do I do?

For minor repairs, I recommend using a cyanoacrylate gel (also known as 'super glue'. I highly recommend Loctite Gel). If a figurine arrives damaged from shipping, I will repair or replace the figurine depending on the amount of damage. Simply let me know and ship it back to me, preferably in its original packaging. I will refund the shipping cost to cover the unforeseen expense and repairing your piece will be my number one priority as soon as it arrives. My turnaround time will be just one week.
