Welcome to Boulder Shop!

I work out of my home art studio here in Boulder, Colorado and I enjoy creating art as much as I enjoy studying great artists from the past — something I do almost daily.

One style of art that I enjoy doing is MidCentury Modern abstract style, particularly in the styles of Matisse, Diebenkorn, Picasso, Rothko, and Kline. I especially liked the art done during the 1950's decade, a decade of lyrical abstraction. And, I embrace minimalism. Monochromatic geometric minimalism describes some of my abstract works.

I do Asian Sumi-e Ink Zen style paintings, too. The Sumi-E paintings are often smaller works with which I often include a white mat, or frame.

Floral art, vases, and vases containing flowers are one more painting passion of mine. As time allows, I hope to expand my inventory of this subject.

I work on both paper and canvas and some of it is very textural. Most work on paper is size 18x24 inches, which fits a standard sized frame. I do 10x10 inch works, too, some of them mounted on wood panels ready to hang, so they can either be displayed as tiles, or framed.

As an appreciator of Eastern aesthetics and philosophy, many of my artworks incorporate Eastern influences including mysticism and zen buddhism, with red stamps or chops. One chop that I use was custom made for me in Japan with my name "K" in Japanese.

I believe that art should be cheerful, portray the mysterious, and use minimalism to rest the mind. The degree of contrast used in a piece of art is especially important to me. When I'm not working with extreme darks and lights, I am drawn to using the exact opposite, that is, bright fauvist colors.

My genre is well-suited to be "decorative art" or even "apartment therapy". I enjoy and pay attention to home decorating trends, styles, design, and the latest popular colors.

My paintings have been purchased by people from Arizona, Arkansas, California, Canada, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Great Britain, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York City, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Ontario, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington.

All art sold here is original and by me, however, in 2018 I have started selling 8x10 prints of my quote art originals. My works on paper are usually in standard sizes to allow for economical framing options. Please contact me with any questions.
