It was a quiet evening. I had just put my three year old son to bed and had my new baby girl, Taylor, asleep in my arms when I started thinking about a craft project I can start in my spare time. Of course it must of been sleep deprivation talking. A toddler + an infant = spare time? Me? Do crafts?! My daughter started fussing, pulling at the clip that held the few strands of hair she had. I took her clip out and tossed it in the end table drawer, closing it a little too hard causing a picture frame to fall over. I secretly wished I had somewhere to house the ever growing collection of hair bows I was accumilating for her as I picked up the frame. As I held it in my hands it dawned on me... maybe I can make something for her? It WOULD cure my need for a craft project and solve a storage problem at the same time...
Having a life long love for antique and vintage items, I found a beautiful vintage frame the next day and started brainstorming how I could turn it into a hair accessory holder for my little girl's room. It took many trials and tribulations but I came up with a design that I loved that was both functional AND stylish. I enjoyed making it so much I decided to make her another... a little girl can never have too many hair accessories, can she?! Once I had both bow holders completed and hung, I was a little disappointed... making them brought out the crafter in me I never knew existed and I didn't want to stop! So I made hair accessory holders for my friend's daughters. I was on Etsy one day looking at fabric to buy for a friend's frame when I realized maybe I could open a shop... I scoured Etsy to see if anybody was making bow holders with vintage frames, but couldn't find them anywhere, so I started myself! I thought of a name immedietly. Instead of deciding on fabric I ended up deciding on a shop name! The hair accessory holders I make were once described to me by a friend as something she would find in a children's boutique, and since they're for bows why not combine the names, I thought? BowChique Designs was born, all thanks to that fallen picture frame.
