Many of the dyes I use are grown and collected in and around my organic dye garden. Whenever I can I use whole botanicals that go straight into my dye pot. I dye in small quantities often with what is in season so every naturally dyed skein is special and one-of-a-kind.

About

Naturally dyed. Naturally beautiful

Brambleberry Yarns came about as a gradual progression through all of my hobbies and passions. A little over 10 years ago I became determined to knit. Seeing that no one I knew was a knitter I took matters into my own hands, picked up a book from the library and taught myself to knit. Not long after mastering how to knit and purl I found myself wanting to combine my other passion for gardening with my new found love of fiber. I began experimenting with using plants from my own garden to dye yarns for my personal knitting. Some of my first results were disastrous but through much trial and error I began to achieve amazing results. I really love being able to combine my love of gardening and plants with my love for yarn and fibers.

:: About the yarn ::

Every yarn found here has been dyed using only natural dyes. The beauty of natural dyed fibers is hard to describe. They simply glow and like magic complement each other, naturally.

Natural dyes are unique in that they require a multi-step process of first applying a mordant to the yarn or fiber before being dyed. I use food grade alum which is both safe for the dyer as well as the environment. I only dye with materials that I know are light and wash fast.

    I have been an obsessed knitter and crocheter for over 12 years now. About 10 years ago I combined my passion for gardening and herbs with my new found love of fiber by mixing the two together and experimenting with natural dyes from plants.

Welcome to Brambleberry Yarns! All the yarns and fibers you will find here are dyed with nature friendly dyes in small quantities and always by hand. I am continuously inspired by my beautiful surrounding living here in the Pacific Northwest. Many of my colors and yarn names (as well as the name to my shop!) come from this inspiration.

A Note on Naturally Dyed Yarns:

The safest of ingredients goes into dyeing my Naturally Dyed Yarns. The natural dyes used are all derived from nature. In fact, many come straight from my garden.
Only dyes found to be good to excellent for light and wash fastness have been used. Please keep in mind that all yarns should be stored out of direct light and that includes yarns dyed with natural dyes. For best color retention yarns should be washed by hand with a gentle cleanser such as Eucalan.

Also please keep in mind that these yarns are dyed by hand and some variations in color may occur. However, many people find this only adds to the beauty and uniqueness of the yarn.

No batch of yarn dyed with natural dyes comes out the same twice. Conditions such as weather and time of year can all affect the color received from the plant material being used. This truly enhances the one of a kind uniqueness each skein of yarn has to offer.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions on yarns dyed with plant dyes.
