5 out of 5 starsI am so thrilled with this piece! Truly beautiful and so thoughtfully considered The gopher tortoise has had a huge place in my life and career. So this piece captures years of hard work and passion of my masters thesis work. This piece captures so much of their importance and the balance and support of that ecosystem.

Intaglio Etching
I naturally took to printmaking processes during college, woodcut in particular. It wasn’t until I worked in relief printing did I find a medium that not only nurtured and naturally enhanced my fluidity of mark making but has also turned into a crucial tool in developing my acute self-awareness as an artist.
Although relief printing is primarily known as a reductive process, by taking away material and creating imagery with negative space, it has become an organic process of reconstruction for my own conceptual thought process when dealing with memory, more specifically trauma. Trauma has become my primary form of advocacy. Common themes explored in my work include; memory, trans-generational trauma, mythology, and environmentalism. I wish to create visual forms of social commentary through woodcuts using energetic, instinctive areas of negative space, juxtaposed with symbolic figurative imagery to express a personal narrative with a universal interpretation.
My latest body of work functions as a form of advocacy and highlights some of Florida's most imperiled species and ecosystems while also bringing awareness to the mythic present.
