I'm so pleased with the way these new whale designs turned out! Drawing animals is pretty much my favorite thing to do, and I still can't believe sometimes that it's my actual JOB to make these sweet things for a living. <3
This cardinal was a custom design, but you can order yours from our red mug listing, selecting the “stock design” option.
This custom vintage fuel pump design was one of the most challenging I’ve done, but so rewarding to see in 3-D on ceramic! Have a design you’d like to see everyday while you sip your favorite beverage? Contact me now for a quote!

Sandblasted Glass & Ceramic Gifts

We believe coffee, tea, beer, and spirits are not meant to be guzzled, but should be savored. These are things that make life enjoyable, and our drinkware enhances these everyday feelings of contentment.

Amanda Siska started Bread and Badger® in 2006 to nourish the soul, and remind you of special events while you sip your favorite beverages. Every new product is tested in our own home before we offer it for sale, so we're confident that it will live up to your expectations.

We offer a wide range of stock designs for different interests which can be purchased as-is on our various drinkware styles, or personalized for special occasions. We specialize in custom animal portraits, from pets to the exotic, and have many years experience turning logos into sandblasting stencils that can be reordered whenever you need client or company gifts.

The term “bread and butter” means to provide a steady income and financial stability. I wanted to be the backbone for my little family, and make sure we were always provided for, even in uncertain times.

"Bread and butter" is also basic sustenance. Our products nourish the soul with designs that make you feel happy, and remind you of special events while you take your meals and sip your favorite beverages. We believe coffee, tea, beer, and spirits are not meant to be guzzled, but should be enjoyed and savored. These are things that make life most enjoyable, and our drinkware is meant to enhance these feelings of contentment.

The word “badger” came into our name because I was inspired by the honey badger. Honey badgers are fearless creatures that will not back down from a fight, and are impervious to venom. Running a small business is never easy, and I’m inspired every day by those tough little animals that can take on so much that other animals fear.

★ Bio ★
Amanda quit her full-time shoe salesperson job before starting her own business back in 2005. She opened her first Etsy shop, SilverSquirrel, in 2006, while designing beaded jewelry. She experimented with other art mediums, read lots of books on business and marketing, and basically absorbed everything she could before falling in love with glass etching with a rotary tool. She officially started Bread and Badger later that year, and opened this Etsy shop the following summer, of 2007.

Once Bread and Badger really took off in 2008, Amanda's husband, Sean, quit his full-time job to run the business with her. They've since turned to sandblasting, which has given them an opportunity to actually make a living creating art that they love. Sean enjoys playing video games, reading, cooking amazing meals, and maintaining his ever-growing collection of planted aquariums. Amanda's artistic inspirations include tattoo art, classic motifs from around the world, pop art and geek culture. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys audio books, comics, video games, cooking, knitting, and learning things on the internet. Honey badgers are her favorite animal, and continue to inspire her with their fearlessness.

★ Is Sandblasting Durable/Permanent? ★
Sandblasting is one of the most durable image transfer method out there! Since the sandblasting process removes the top layer of glass or ceramic glaze by cutting into it, the only way to remove the design would be to melt it down in a kiln or sandblast away all the surrounding glaze.

There are a lot of decals or screen printing out there on dishware that looks like etching, but they wear off with time. Our process will never do that! Sandblasting also has a smooth, even finish, unlike laser-etching (which shows a matrix pattern on its etched surface) and acid cream etching which can be splotchy and uneven.

★ Are Your Products Dishwasher- or Microwave-Safe? ★
Yes! All our glassware and ceramics are food-safe, and can be washed in a dishwasher, even sanitized! The design will never fade, wear, stain, or scratch. We recommend hand-washing silicone travel lids in case of warping, but occasional dish-washing on a normal cycle should be fine.

All mugs and bowls are microwave-safe as well, and shouldn't get any hotter than any other microwave-safe cups.

★ Are Your Products Made in USA? ★
We buy blank glass and ceramic items, and sandblast our original artwork onto them by hand in Portland, OR. All our glassware items are made in the USA, but our ceramic mugs are made in China, which is considered "assembled in USA". We are always looking for affordable American-made products that we can sandblast onto.

★ Are Your Products Lead-Free? ★
The glazes used on our mugs meet California’s Proposition 65 strict limits for leaching of lead and cadmium (0.99 ppm lead and 7.92 ppm cadmium). In fact, our glazes are non-detect at testing detection limits well below (< 0.01 ppm for both). This is really fantastic!

★ What is the Life Expectancy of Your Products? ★
Technically, they should be able to last multiple lifetimes. We understand that accidents happen, and our items are definitely fragile, but they aren't any more fragile than most other dishware on the market. We consider them more sturdy than some other brands available, and keep our standards quite high for durability.

To prolong the life of your Bread and Badger cups and avoid breakage, we recommend against nesting (stacking them inside or on top of each other), and storing or washing them in sinks made of concrete, stone, or ceramic.

Some staining of silicone lids is unavoidable on lighter colors, so we recommend choosing darker colored lids if this bothers you. They shouldn't have any odors, but some customers with very sensitive noses have claimed that new lids have a smell, or that old ones retain a smell. Washing in a dishwasher, or soaking in white vinegar should fix this.

★ U.S. Orders ★
Most items are shipped within 1 business day of receiving your cleared payment, while custom and made-to-order items ship within 2 weeks, based on the time it takes to create your stencil and possibly source specialty items.

Most orders will be shipped USPS Priority Mail (1-3 business days) or Fedex Ground (2-10 business days, for most orders containing more than 4 items).

You'll receive a confirmation email with a tracking number when we're shipping your order. We DO NOT guarantee delivery time for any packages once they have been received by a carrier.

Orders include insurance and Delivery Confirmation when possible. Packages may be left on doorsteps or insecure locations, as the delivery person sees fit. Unfortunately, we have no control over this unless you request and pay for signature confirmation. Shipping items to a work address is often a good idea. We cannot refund shipping charges for UNCLAIMED packages or returns.

★ International Orders ★

If ordering 4 or more cups, we will most likely be forced to upgrade your order to Priority Mail shipping because of weight restrictions. Because Etsy's system doesn't always calculate costs correctly, we may have to charge you for more postage in this case. If you are overcharged, we're happy to send a refund. (Lowball, juice, and shot glasses can ship in sets of 4 with 2-6 week shipping, but not with other items.)

International orders travel First Class or Priority Mail, based on weight and size of the package (larger orders travel Priority, which is faster and more expensive). Delivery dates and tracking info are usually unavailable for international orders, and often take about 8 days to arrive, but can sometimes take 2-3 months if there is a customs delay.

All duties and customs fees are the responsibility of the buyer, and can be extremely high in some cases.

IF YOU ARE SENDING A GIFT TO SOMEONE OUTSIDE THE U.S.A., THEY WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING CUSTOMS FEES UPON ARRIVAL. Many gift recipients refuse to pick up these packages, and they will be returned, minus the postage. We highly recommend having these gifts shipped to you, personally, so that you can re-ship them as a gift to avoid customs fees for your friend, or please inform them that they will need to pick up and pay for their package upon arrival.

★ Damages/Claims ★
Our glassware is packaged very carefully to withstand transit, but sometimes accidents happen. If something arrives broken, please contact us immediately so we can replace it.

Theft and breakage very rarely occur. Please contact us immediately if you feel your package has been lost or damaged.

★ Disclaimer ★

Some pieces may have minor imperfections on them. We try our best to only use pieces with the least amount of imperfections, but some tiny bubbles in glass and ceramics glazes are unavoidable.
