A Little Retro. A Lot of Glow.
Como cualquier buen disco, esta tienda empezó con una chispa... y luego siguió girando.
En mayo de 2011, me propuse hacer el regalo de cumpleaños perfecto. Después de darle vueltas a las ideas (y probablemente escuchar demasiada música), me decidí por un reloj de vinilo. Encontré el LP perfecto, compré algunas piezas en la tienda de manualidades y lo hice yo mismo. En cuanto lo terminé, me enganché. De repente, miraba todos los discos viejos y pensaba: "¿En qué más puedo convertirte?".
Empecé a publicar mis creaciones en Facebook, y mis amigos enseguida me dijeron: «¡Tienes que venderlas en Etsy!». Así que, en junio de 2011, me lancé y mi tienda abrió oficialmente sus puertas.
Aproximadamente un mes después, me asaltó la idea que lo cambió todo. Una clienta compró un reloj para la habitación de su hijo nonato y me contó que la estaba decorando con un estilo retro: discos y casetes por todas partes. Y así, clic. Un momento de inspiración. Literalmente.
Saqué mis viejas cintas de casete de los 90 y empecé a experimentar convirtiéndolas en luces de noche. Mis amigos y familiares se volvieron locos por ellas, y sin darme cuenta, se convirtieron en mi artículo más vendido. Hoy, mis Luces Mixtape son el corazón de mi tienda y lo que más me enorgullece de hacer.
Música antigua. Vida nueva. Y mucha nostalgia.
Like any good record, this shop started with a spark—and then it just kept spinning.
Back in May of 2011, I was on a mission to make the perfect birthday gift. After some brainstorming (and probably listening to too much music), I landed on a vinyl record clock. I found the perfect LP, grabbed some clock parts from the craft store, and made it myself. The moment it was finished, I was hooked. Suddenly I was looking at every old record thinking, “What else can I turn you into?”
I started posting my creations on Facebook, and my friends quickly stepped in with, “You NEED to sell these on Etsy.” So in June of 2011, I took the leap—and my shop officially opened its doors.
About a month later, the idea that changed everything hit me. A customer bought a clock for her unborn son’s nursery and told me she was decorating it with a retro theme—records and cassette tapes everywhere. And just like that… click. A lightbulb moment. Literally.
I dug out my old cassette tapes from the ’90s and started experimenting with turning them into night lights. My friends and family went wild over them, and before I knew it, they became my best-selling item. Today, my Mixtape Lights are the heart of my shop—and the thing I’m most proud to make.
Old music. New life. And a whole lot of nostalgia.
