I used my sweet gum wood pieces for a floating shelf and floating shelves. They are beautifully crafted and looked great in the bedroom I was remodeling. It is a modern bedroom with rustic accents, so the natural wood pieces were perfect. Also, Gregory (the owner), was great to work with. He customized pieces to fit my needs since I was particular about sizing and how it looked. The "live edge" and marbling of the wood made it look so gorgeous...I have had so many compliments on the wood since I got them! I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

About

Making one of a kind designer wood slab furniture!

The germination of Hurricane Milling

In 2011 Hurricane Irene was barreling down on Eastern North Carolina. Just before the storm had hit I had closed on my house and two days later was laid off from my retail management position. I had no back up plan so I called a long time friend of mine and owner of Atlantic Coast Landscaping if he needed any workers for the hurricane clean-up.

While cleaning up fallen trees I found out that all the wood was going to the city of New Bern to be converted into mulch. This included massive oak, walnut, pecan, maple and other beautiful hardwoods.

After contacting someone who had saved a few logs and milled them into live edge slabs. I began hand sanding and finishing the slabs and listing them on Etsy. As I found it harder and harder to come by raw live edge wood slabs I purchased a chainsaw mill and began making my own slabs, I did this for a year before saving up enough for a band saw mill.

With being able to cut my own logs I am able to get custom cuts for specific projects. As I steered away from just making slab table tops and shelving I began making full furniture pieces which will include a full furniture line in the summer of 2017.

As Hurricane Milling looks towards the future, the business will be going into three different development phases, (1) Furniture design and development (2) Selling rough sawn lumber of unique domestic species (3) Mass production of easy to install floating shelves.

I am an adventurer, writer and wood worker. These are my three passions. I take in the raw material of the wood and work with it to bring out its story and capture its natural character for your home or office.

Shipping
I ship all smaller pieces in bubble wrap and appliance grade cardboard. Medium and larger pieces (over $300) are wrapped in bubble wrap and crated for to insure safe transit.
Refunds and Exchanges
No Refund Policy. Cancelation can be rewarded after 24 hours of purchase with detailed explanation of cancelation, there is a 15% restocking fee for all canceled orders. Please take damages up with the shipper (I generally use Fedex). Save all packaging and take photos if damages occur. I do my best to package the slabs so normal shipping can not damage the items. Sometimes though the shipper will find unusual means to damage an item. If a legitimate claim is filed with the shipping company a check will be mailed to you within three to five weeks and there is no need to return the slab.

I make every effort to present the pieces as true to the actual piece as possible through digital means. Colors will be slightly different from monitor to monitor in some cases due to different monitor color, contrast, and brightness settings. All my wood is sealed with a clear coat and is the natural color of the wood. Once a piece is sold I examine the piece once retrieved from storage and will contact the purchaser if the wood has altered in any way before the shipment is sent out. I want my collectors to be happy with their purchase!
