Where to start?... The item was shipped on time and was a very nice piece except it was broke. Contacted the seller who said open a case with fedex. FedEx came back and said there was insufficient packaging which I can understand because the box it arrived in was a joke. Contacted the seller again and did not even ask for a refund I asked him to simply "work" with me to figure something out. Zero communication back. Then opened an etsy case and they told me it was fedex's fault because it broke in shipment. What a freaking joke. I guess the seller skipped class when it comes to business ethics because all parties concerned told me, the customer, too pound sand. So I am left with a broken board that I paid $200 for... Guess I'm gonna have a $200 fire later. Thanks for the sandy bhole hurricane milling. Beware buyers...

I tried to help this customer get a refund through Fedex but he would not provide them with adequate information, like a picture of the packaging material. He did however send me a photo of the broken slab which had the back corner removed along the grain. This could easily be fixed with a dab of glue and a small clamp. I offered to repair the piece free of charge but never heard back....

Ordered 4 table legs from Hurricane Milling on Feb 17. They were supposed to be sent out Marchcl 3rd. March 6th and no word from the owner attempted several contacts with no respinse. This is my first negative purchase using etsy.

Tried working with the customer on several attempts about the order who was told upfront there was a three week lead time on all metal work. I refunded the customer in full after he demanded unreasonable results. He still expected the legs be mailed even after a full refund. The metal work provided is to supplement the wood slabs in my shop (for the most part). I am more than happy to work with people on the metal work only but I do ask for some patience with this. I am currently working on a line of wooden legs to compliment my wood slabs but these are not available as of yet (these will come out sometime in 2017 after some more rigorous testing). I appreciate all my customers but I am one person who stays very happily busy.

About

Making one of a kind designer wood slabs at a reasonable price!

It all started while removing trees after hurricane Irene in 2011. While getting trees out of the roads and yards of New Bern, NC I thought to myself, "Man, it's a shame all these awesome trees are just going to be made into mulch for the city." After some time and some questioning around I found someone who had saved a lot of trees from going to the mulch pile. I work with him and slowly but surely we were able to start getting the raw slabs. With these slabs now long gone I work with several mills in the area. I try to only get wood that has naturally fallen which isn't to hard around here. We typically get a small hurricane every year and a big one like Irene about every three to four years.

I try to pick out the slabs with the most character, knobs, funky grain patterns, bends, unique patterns, etc. I then take them home and the sanding begins. I hand sand each piece and I can produce a thoughtfully sanded piece in about six hours depending on length and width. I triple sand first with 40 grit sand paper to really get down to the bare wood and get rid of any saw marks, then I use a 120 grit sand paper to smooth out the edges and get a really smooth finish, then I use a 220 grit sand paper which makes the surface like glass (after doing this I can rub my hands all over it without fear of a splinter!) I do this to both top and bottom, often times most finished slabs you'll find on the internet do not show photos of the bottom of the slab, that's because it's still bare wood and will give you splinters!

After this I then use Vermont Natural Wood Finish for a nice clean environmentally sound finish. I put on three coats, sanding between each for an even smoother finish and one that will last a lifetime!

Then the piece dries. I then set it up for the photo shoot, this is always a fun process! After I add it to Etsy I then wrap it in fleece and inventories it in my shed where it wait until one of my faithful customers to purchase it!

As you can see I'm currently running the entire operation out of my home. There is a four door garage for rent right across the street from my house! This is where I'd love to move my entire operation. I could also purchase a planner for faster sanding and lower labor for a lower cost product. So if all goes well and the slabs begin to sell a little faster I'll be producing a lot more quality pieces!

I am an adventurer, writer and wood worker. These are my three passions. I take in the raw material of the wood and work with it to bring out its story and capture its natural character for your home or office.

Shipping
I ship all smaller pieces in bubble wrap and appliance grade cardboard. Medium and larger pieces (over $300) are wrapped in bubble wrap and crated for to insure safe transit. All pieces are shipped on Monday. If a piece is purchased Saturday after 6PM EST through the following Saturday before 6PM EST it will ship the following Monday.
Refunds and Exchanges
No Refund Policy. Cancelation can be rewarded after 24 hours of purchase with detailed explanation of cancelation, there is a 15% restocking fee for all canceled orders. Please take damages up with the shipper (I generally use Fedex). Save all packaging and take photos if damages occur. I do my best to package the slabs so normal shipping can not damage the items. Sometimes though the shipper will find unusual means to damage an item. If a legitimate claim is filed with the shipping company a check will be mailed to you within three to five weeks and there is no need to return the slab.

I make every effort to present the pieces as true to the actual piece as possible through digital means. Colors will be slightly different from monitor to monitor in some cases due to different monitor color, contrast, and brightness settings. All my wood is sealed with a clear coat and is the natural color of the wood. Once a piece is sold I examine the piece once retrieved from storage and will contact the purchaser if the wood has altered in any way before the shipment is sent out. I want my collectors to be happy with their purchase!
