I am a floral designer and beekeeper in Los Angeles, CA

I am a floral designer and beekeeper in Los Angeles, CA. I opened the Etsy shop to offer design options and products for dried flowers in addition to my fresh flower work, and also offer beeswax candles and honey that can be shipped anywhere in the states.

A bit about our beekeeping...

When my husband and I learned about bees disappearing, we decided we wanted to do our part in helping save the bees even if it's just a small venture of backyard beekeeping. We decided to become beekeepers, and shortly after making the decision, a feral beehive showed up in a birdhouse at the end of our drive way, so we rescued them and put them in a proper hive where they can expand, and we moved them to an area where there is less foot traffic. They are happy, docile bees, and we follow a method of beekeeping where we let them do their thing, we regulate and observe and provide more hives when they grow, but we do not use pesticides or antibiotics on them.

We only take excess honey after they have survived winter, and I decided with this venture I wanted to create a line of candle holders from reclaimed wood and homemade beeswax products so nothing goes to waste after extracting honey. The idea is to have it available for online sales and farmer's markets locally. Thank you for supporting the cause of rescuing bees!

Welcome to my Etsy shop, Brie's Honeybees & Flowers! I am a floral designer, beekeeper, and artist in Los Angeles, CA. The items sold in this shop are handmade and designed with a minimalistic approach.

In becoming a beekeeper, I wanted to create a line of candle holders and handmade candles and products that allow uses for beeswax after the honey has been pressed out. All of the beeswax used from my own hive is pesticide and antibiotic free. I will try to only use comb from my own hives and others who practice the same type of organic beekeeping like I do, but due to order numbers it may not always be possible.

Beeswax candles are unique to other types of waxes in that when burned they actually emit negative ions that help clean the air. Their mild, sweet, honey smell make for a nice natural aroma, so other scents aren't a necessary addition, although some of my candles are scented. And they have a nice, natural golden color, which can vary per batch due to the natural state of extraction, which I think gives it charm.

Paraffin candles are a by product of petroleum, which are believed to release toxins into the air, and soy is often a gmo product that was sprayed with chemicals, which is then in the product of candles made of soy. When burning beeswax candles that are known to be pesticide free, you can know that you are not only helping clean the air you breath, but you are being more earth friendly, while still enjoying candle light.

In addition to using the beeswax, we only extract honey when there is excess after the bees have survived winter, which means our supply may ebb and flow for what is available. Each bee in her lifetime will only produce about 1 teaspoon of honey, so we try very hard not to have waste and to be very humane when checking on them on a regular basis to respect the work they do in their lives.

Honey will never go bad. If it crystallizes, you can still use it in tea or coffee, or you can place the jar in a pot of water melt it down again.

*Please do not leave a burning candle unsupervised or near flammable objects--I am not responsible for any fires you may start. Make sure the wick of candle is always trimmed properly at 1/4 inch high before lighting. Keep out of reach of children.
