About

Writing It Out to Share with the World

I've always dreamed of being a writer. I've filled countless notebooks since I learned to write, scribbling since elementary school, and when I learned about zines in my last year of middle school, it seemed like a new door was presented to me as an option; I didn't have to go the traditional route. I never would if I didn't want to. I could be a writer all on my own, with some paper, pens, and glue sticks. It wasn't until college, however, that I finally found the voice, the drive, and the confidence to actually begin self-publishing my zines to share with others. Zines became an outlet similar in face value to blogging, but preferable, more tactile, more real.

I write a couple of zines based on what I want to write at the moment. I have a perzine, One-Girl Bicycle Club, which was my first and remains my favorite as it grows and turns into something I can see clearly. OGBC focuses on self care, relationships with others, and community--all topics I've struggled with over time (and still do).

Additionally, I work on a zine of prose poetry and short (flash/micro) fiction, Small Parts.

Kick back and have a read.

One-Girl Bicycle Club is run entirely by me, Sonya: I write + draw zine content, unless otherwise specified; I put together each issue by hand; and I mail out each order with plenty of affection for the shopper.
