About

It all started with a bolt of fabric, a sewing machine, and a dream.

I grew up surrounded by craft, it flows in my blood. I'm the daughter of a nationally recognized, published artist and a gifted carpenter.

Trained as a chef, I left the industry when I had my first child. He had a ton of noisy toys, most of which were made in China. I was less than pleased when I had to dispose of most of his toys after the toy recalls in 2006 / 2007.

The absolute need for a creative outlet and the disposal of hundreds of dollars worth of toys drove me to create Bright Life Toys.

I absolutely love bringing rainbows of color to life in my home studio. I love bringing those products into your home as well. My children are my best customers - my youngest has no less than 7 different organic bamboo velour plushies she sleeps with nightly.

Now our toys here at home no longer make noise, and many are made by me. I test all of the toys I offer with my own children first. Those that aren't well received don't make the cut into the shop.

I use mainly hand dyed organic bamboo velour in the creation of the stuffed animals, and U.S.-grown hardwood in creation of the wooden toys. All materials are ethically sourced, as human rights are extremely important to me.

Our wool comes from Touchstone Farms, the first certified humane sheep farm in America. I assist with shearing the sheep (wool skirter at your service!) All of the wool is hand-skirted, hand-cleaned and hand-carded.

When you buy from Bright Life Toys, you are supporting a small business in the United States – a small business with a commitment to quality, to community, and to the environment.

Additional policies and FAQs
All items come from a smoke free home. I do have a dog, but he isn't allowed in my studio.

International customers are responsible for all customs fees and / or taxes their respective countries charge.

**A Word About Our Wool**

All wool used in our toys comes from a local sheep farm, Touchstone Farms. They are the first certified humane sheep farm in the United States. The sheep are allowed to roam and frolic in green pastures, not forced to stand in tiny cages in a crowded barn.

The sheep are not stressed during shearing. I've personally witnessed and helped skirt wool during this process. Each sheep is handled with care and respect.

When I get the wool home, I hand skirt it, hand clean it, and hand card it. I don't use harsh chemicals like mills do with commercially available wool. Did you know that most commercially available wool is treated with hydrochloric acid to dissolve vegetable matter? I don't want my children touching that residue, and I don't want to provide toys to your children with it either.

My wool is cleaned using a gentle soap only, and rinsed clean.

I use wool from Clun Forest sheep, which is known for its soft and squishy texture. This makes my finished toys super squishy too!
