Brooklyn did a fantastic job. There was one little thing I wasn't sure about and she totally listened, was open and ever so slightly tweaked the picture. Brooklyn really captured our daughter and we have a perfect picture. Would recommend her to anyone
I Never Stopped Drawing
I have been drawing since I was a tot, but I've never stopped like most people do. I come from a family of artists that always encouraged me to dream. That the impossible was always possible, somehow. Some way.
During high school, I was very free in my expression. I would come home and write in my journal and draw. I would paint. On my walls, my clothes, my purses. Anything I could get my hands on. At that point, I was so free with my expression and I could barely care what anyone else thought of my work.
I started painting commissioned artwork onto t-shirts and sold them to kids at school. After that, I taught myself how to paint onto stretched canvas, creating many self portraits. I knew I needed to paint the human face. Even as a baby, I have always been mesmerized with people's faces and the stories that are told even from the simplest expressions.
Meanwhile, I graduated, traveled, got married, all the while doing commissioned paintings for people on the side. It took a few years, but as I went from job to job and kept painting, I realized that being an artist was so much more than something of my daydreams. I could really do it. I could really be that girl that I so wanted to become since I was a child.
People have told me all sorts of things. They told me I could never be successful, or that I had to only paint a certain way or use a specific type of paint to truly be an artist. (I personally prefer the rhythm and rapidity of acrylic.) But I didn't listen to them. And now my artwork is in several private galleries around the world, thanks to Etsy.
It feels so good, not to prove anyone wrong, but to just be able to finally be me: a girl who always has paint in her hair.
Brooklyn is a self-taught artist with a very curious imagination. Born in the beautiful city of Detroit, she kindles artistry wherever she goes.
