I was introduced to clay in the 70's. Never having had any art classes in high school, I went to college to be a math major. My Mother suggested I take an art class because she had been impressed by someone in college who had taken ceramics. One semester and I was hooked on art. I loved the freedom to create and had great fun trying all sorts of ways to make art. I found clay to be a real source of enjoyment, from the smell of the earth to the feel of it in your hands. And to this day I get excited when I open the kiln lid and see how the firing turned out.

I specialize in one of a kind pieces, though my work has a theme. I like to make 'art you can use' and clay fits that bill. I custom make my own glazes and use a wax resist technique to hand paint designs that come to me as I do them. I paint the wax right on the glazed pot free hand.

One of my favorite scenes is lining up all I have made for the day to take a look and review. I set a task or problem to solve each time before I make something and feel making pots is a kind of meditation for me as well. I think solely of the task at hand and I love that about making pots.
