The Evolution of Buckleguy

The Buckleguy origins began in 1946 with John Harriss. John Harriss was a leather supplier and liaison between the English leather tanneries and US shoe manufacturers. John supplied leather to many of the largest US shoe manufactures that are still around today. John's son Robert Harriss got involved in the business and transitioned the company into a supplier of large tanning machinery, and supplied many of the Eastern European tanneries with their machines. When Robert's son Peter Harriss joined the ranks many of the European tanneries were going out of business as production moved to Asia. Peter discovered the need for higher end brass hardware in the early 1980's, and from that point developed hardware for many of the largest handbag and leather companies in the US. Custom hardware manufacturing is still the main business today. In 2000 Peter and his partners built their own factory specializing in the production of brass hardware. In 2010, Buckleguy was established. Buckleguy was formed with the intention of offering small to medium manufacturers and crafters the ability to purchase higher quality hardware that was previously unavailable in small quantities. At Buckleguy there are no minimum order requirements, and all hardware is stocked so that orders can be shipped within 1-2 days. Peter's son Hugh Harriss joined the company is 2013 and is helping to expand the products offered at Buckleguy to meet the needs of a wider range of customers. Also at the company is Hugh's Mother Jackie, Auntie Sue, and a small team of staff that have been at the company for years. Robert Harriss, now 87 still comes to work every day and packs all of the small Buckleguy orders.

We hope you love our hardware as much as we love seeing what you make with it.

Thank you.
