About

When Dreams Come True.....

Art has always been a huge part of my life. Without it, I'd be lost. It's always been my escape, my refuge, my cure for stress and depression, and my friend.

Growing up 1 of 7 children, there was barely enough money for basics, let alone extras. Although i dreamed of art classes, my way of learning was through trial and error. Despite the lack of art supplies, i remember creating things out of broken pieces and left-overs. Popsicle sticks became wooden houses and the twist-ties off bread loaves were formed into stick people. I think not having "real" art supplies forced me to think outside the box and use whatever was available.

Walking through the shops in Lancaster one day, I spotted a group of hand-carved wooden Santas in the window. I fell in love! i couldn't get them out of my mind. I didn't want to buy them, I wanted to MAKE them! So, armed with a dull pocketknife and "How-To" book, I carved my first Santa head. It wasn't very good and I had to keep carving off where my blood fell on it (I later learned to never carve with a dull knife!) , but my husband came home and said, "Is that a man's face?" I was thrilled! He could actually tell what I was carving!

That was 18 years ago and I've come a long way. Just yesterday, the package I've been waiting for a whole year arrived - The "Woodcarving Illustrated" magazine that features MY carving and 3-page "How-To" article for others to learn from! My dream of becoming a published artist has been realized and now I get to help others, like others have helped me.
