Frequently asked questions

Care instructions

Care Instructions for Buffalo Horn Products

Buffalo horn is a natural, durable, and beautiful material. With proper care, your horn product can last for many years and develop an even richer appearance over time.

1. Avoid Prolonged Water Exposure

Buffalo horn should not be soaked in water.

Do not leave horn products in water for long periods.

Do not place them in a dishwasher.

If the item gets wet, simply wipe it dry with a soft cloth.

2. Clean Gently

To clean your horn item:

Use a soft cloth with lukewarm water and mild soap.

Rinse quickly and dry immediately with a towel.

Avoid harsh detergents, chemicals, or alcohol-based cleaners.

3. Avoid Heat and Direct Sunlight

Buffalo horn is sensitive to heat.

Do not expose it to high

Is buffalo horn a sustainable material?

Buffalo horn is a natural by-product of the food industry. The horns are collected after the animals are used for food, meaning no animals are raised or harmed specifically for their horns. Using horn allows this natural material to be repurposed instead of discarded.

Because it is a natural material, buffalo horn is durable, long-lasting, and biodegradable over time, making it a more sustainable alternative to many synthetic materials.

Can buffalo horn bend?

Buffalo horn is a natural thermoplastic material. When exposed to high heat, it can soften and become slightly flexible, which means it may bend or change shape. Once it cools down, it hardens again and keeps its shape.

If a horn item becomes slightly bent, it can often be reshaped. Simply place the piece in warm (not boiling) water for a few minutes until it becomes slightly flexible. Then gently adjust it back to the desired shape and allow it to cool completely while holding or resting it in that position. Once cooled, it will harden and keep its shape again.

To avoid this, keep buffalo horn products away from high temperatures and strong direct sunlight. Under normal use and care, your horn accessory will remain stable and durable.

Is each piece unique?

Yes. Buffalo horn is a natural material, and each piece has its own unique patterns, colors, and translucency. No two items are exactly the same.

These natural variations are part of the beauty of genuine buffalo horn and make every piece truly one of a kind.
