Announcement   Welcome to Bukonia!

I have always used this term to speak about all things I love. I love nature and beautiful cultures from the ancient past and today: music, fur hats, embroidered clothing, jewelry, feathers, and other cultural items from Tibetans, Yakuts, Inuits, Mongolians, Berbers, Bedouins, Gypsies, Southeast Asians, Africans, Egyptians, Middle Easterners, Filipinos, Native Americans and many more. Bukonia is world I create that is a hybrid of and is inspired by all of these cultures; a world of music and fashion. I, myself, finding out from my DNA test results, are a hybrid of all these cultures as well.

I hope to bring you warm soft items to wear and to decorate your home. Embroidered and beaded jewelry to feel like a queen. You can find my drawings and other wall decorations, refurbished and new furniture here for sale.

Thank you for checking out my shop and also check out my band, The Swords of Fatima. I also sell our T-Shirts here. Our music can be found on iTunes, Amazon, Reverbnation, Facebook, etc.

Salamat Po!!

P.S. I welcome commissioned pieces so send me a private message and we can work something out.

About

Michelle “Buko” Sinigayan aka Buko Pan Guerra is a musician, artist, performer, construction manager, and project coordinator in the Los Angeles Area.

I had a long career as an art student at Virginia Commonwealth University (BFA in Crafts 1997). I was a ceramist, furniture maker, printmaker and painter. I continued my studies at Ohio State University in a Post-Undergraduate Non-Degree Program. I then moved to Los Angeles in 1999 to attend California Institute of the Arts’ MFA Program. I graduated in 2001 as a video and installation artist.

After Calarts, I got deep into the LA Underground Music scene. I stopped making art and started making music full-time. I have had a double life as an artist and musician; then a double life as a musician and construction manager. I joke that I took a temporary assignment to file paper for 6 weeks at an architectural firm in Downtown LA that lasted 15 years. In various cities I have lived (Richmond, Columbus, Valencia, Los Angeles), I have participated in both Art and Music Scenes. I have a deep passion for art, film and music.

I played bass in Project K and the all-girl glam psych band, Lily and The Ladies. Lily and The Ladies ruled the Silverlake scene for the 3 years they were together. The Ladies played their last show at the Roxy in 2005 and a second reunion show in 2009 at The Echo. After the Ladies ended, I started a solo career on her banjo playing dark psych-folk originals. Today I play a guitar in a banjo-styled tuning in The Swords of Fatima.

In 2017, I started an Etsy store called, Bukonia! I have always used this term to speak about all things I love. I love nature and cultures from the ancient past and today: music, fur hats, embroidered clothing, jewelry, feathers, and other cultural items from Tibetans, Yakuts, Inuits, Mongolians, Berbers, Bedouins, Gypsies, Southeast Asians, Africans, Egyptians, Middle Easterners, Filipinos, Native Americans and many more. I, myself, finding out from my DNA test results, are a hybrid of all these cultures as well. I make jewelry, faux fur hats and other winter wear, crocheted bedding, drawings, silk-screened t-shirts, and refurbished furniture.
