Off to Save the World [and lives on occasion]

We like lasers, earth, people, food, cooking, and business (but not cooking earth people with lasers for food and business). It kinda all started there. That and a brilliant idea on a napkin.

BungalowBoo was born in San Diego, California and over two years has grown into a two shop Mom and Daughter power team. "Mom" (aka Cindi) works out of her shop in Wichita, Kansas and "daughter" (aka Emily) has recently relocated to Vancouver, WA.
Emily is a critical care nurse that started BungalowBoo to pay for impending grad school debts. Now that she is full time in her PhD program, Cindi has taken over the majority of the business duties.
I am an old fashioned gal who grew up watching Captain Planet and sold daisy seeds instead of lemonade. I believe in the power of bamboo; it has cohesive magic of being a renewable grass that is stronger than most woods and naturally anti-microbial. Not to mention being absolutely gorgeous. Bamboo is beauty and bronze.
I taught history, government, and economics for 20 years. After retiring from teaching about Lewis and Clark, I decided to live like Lewis and Clark. I take agriculture seriously and know that healthy living means trying to live as organically as possible. I have the largest variety of daylilies in the state of Kansas and still teach about self sustaining farm life within our community.

Bungalowboo is successful because of Bungalowboogers like you. We have sold over 4000 cutting boards in 17 different countries and we are determined to continue helping our planet in our own special way. Like our favorite philosopher says "The power is yours"!

Christmas 2016:
Orders are shipping out quickly, but there is a 2-3 day turnaround. If you want to hurry the process, order the expedited shipping and we'll move you to the front of the line!
Thank you for your interest in Bungalowboo custom engraved personalized cutting boards. As in the spirit of Etsy, you can be assured that all handmade engraved designs in our shop are engraved by us! We are a little old fashioned and grew up watching Captain Planet, so we kind of like making Eco-friendly items. Our bamboo is 100% recycled material, stronger than maple, and naturally anti-microbial. We don’t cut down trees to make our products and we try to use good vibrations [and excitations] in everything we do.

[I love mother earth, little kittens and bottlenose dolphins]

Engraving is free for existing designs. If you would like a custom order, please convo me. There will be additional charges for custom orders due to the amount of time and detail we take to get your order right.

Keep watching the site for different designs, products, board sets, and promotions!

My boards are 100% recycled bamboo, engraved by myself here in the very green Pacific Northwest. Bamboo is a renewable resource which helps protect our precious forests, absorb greenhouse gases, and every part of the plant can be utilized after harvest. Many species grow more than three feet each day!!

After this board was personally engraved, it was hand washed and then sealed with a combination of food-safe mineral oil, beeswax, and anti-microbial rosemary lemon essential oils. I use only all natural food safe finishes on our products.

*Your cutting board will be similar to the one in this listing, but due to the unique qualities of our boards, they may vary slightly in size, color or grain pattern than the board shown in this listing. Each board is a hand-made work of art and as such will be unique. This board is crafted with both form and function in mind. Choose to work in the open space on the front, or flip it over and chop on the back. Display the artwork while not working on your board to add a little piece of beauty to your kitchen!

MORE ABOUT BUNGALOWBOO’S CUTTING BOARDS and CHEESE BOARDS... Bamboo grows to a harvestable height in three to five years, as compared to decades for its tree counterparts, and it can regrow without replanting. It's also remarkably sturdy — 16 percent stronger than maple — yet gentler on knives than plastic. So while it holds up against daily chopping duties, it also resists deep gouges better than wood (and thus harbors less icky bacteria). But bamboo is not indestructible, and it can split along its seams if not properly cared for. It is also a renewable resource, making it a great choice for the environmentally conscious. BungalowBoo makes a product that is the most affordable on Etsy and the most Earth Friendly!!

Culinary Intelligence explains that studies have proven that heavily used and scarred wood cutting boards harbor much less bacteria than similar plastic boards. This is partially because wood and bamboo are naturally hostile environments for bacteria to live in. Compared to other woods, bamboo does not scar as easily meaning there are fewer areas for bacteria to collect. Board Chopping also explains that the bacteria cannot survive on wood because its pores wick vital moisture away from surface bacteria.

Caring for your Board:

Before you make your first cut, drizzle that board with mineral oil and rub it in with a soft, dry cloth. The oil moisturizes the wood, helps to avoid splitting, and gives the bamboo that lovely burnished look. Repeat this every day for about a week, and then condition your boards once a month thereafter.

Wash your cutting boards in warm, soapy water after every use. If you're a real stickler, you should dry them after each use as well, but I prop mine up in the dish rack to dry, and my boards are still in great shape. Please do not soak in water or throw them in the diswasher, bamboo will split.

If you use your bamboo boards for meats, it's important to disinfect them after each use. Dissolve one part vinegar in five parts water, and use a sponge to scrub down the board. Bleach may also be used, but make sure to dilute it thoroughly. Rinse the cutting board well, dry as usual.Keep in mind that it's just good practice to reserve one board entirely for meats. You'd hate to cross-contaminate your vegetables (especially if you eat them raw).

Remove Stains and Odors
From time to time, you may notice vegetable stains setting into the board, which is not a health hazard but can ruin the beauty of the bamboo. To get rid of stains, scrub some coarse salt over the surface of the board with a sponge, then rinse and dry. Odors can also ingrain themselves in the bamboo, which you can resolve by rubbing a paste of baking soda and water over the board before rinsing and drying.

With Emily's doctoral program and the business being run in two different parts of the country we really tried to make this easier on everyone... and save our own sanity...hopefully....

It is really simple... when you go to order, just type in the "notes to seller" section what you would like customized and if you have any special requests. Customization to existing designs is and always will be free! No need to send me a custom request for this. Don't forget to add your order to the cart!

WHAT SIZE IS THIS BOARD? What color? What prices?
All sizes and styles are listed in the drop down menu labeled "Choose a Style" on that item's page.

I don't do wholesale because it is just a two woman team. We can do bulk orders but they may take longer (up to 4.5 weeks). If you need it rushed I will be more than happy to stay up to 2am finishing the order. But for a fee.

Please give me the size of the cutting board and the style you want in your request (example 12x8x.75 natural, 5 of them, by Dec 13).
I would be happy to make a custom design for you. If you have a black and white vector image in mind it does make it easier. We use a lot of our photos from vectorstock.com to save on time and money. If you don't have an image in mind or don't find one on the site we will be happy to come up with a design for you. Our graphic design fee starts at $40/hr (min charge of $40) for new graphics.

My boards are not bought from China. I hand select the bamboo plywood from local suppliers. I hand cut the wood twice and sand it with two different grits. I hand select my designs to be featured on a cutting board and some I design myself. I do all of my own engraving and then I personally wash and oil the boards by hand. Each board is inspected and then wrapped and tagged in twine. They aren't always perfect or the same size, but that is because it was made by a human not a machine. That is the unique imperfect beauty of my bamboo cutting boards.
So no. My time and energy is never discounted, so neither are the boards that I birthed through my sweat and tears. On the other hand... if you take the time to look through my site there are hidden discounts throughout ;)
So please don't ask unless you are ordering more than 25 boards. Because you will just get that as my response. We have plenty of items under $25 that make beautiful custom gifts for the holidays.

I can waive the designer fee if you are using your logo. I can also give you shipping discounts.

I am really sorry but we no longer do pick ups or deliveries locally for security reasons. Sorry for any inconvenience. You didn't want to drive to Kansas anyway.

Etsy already does this. You will be charged a flat fee rate on your initial item and then every item thereafter is about half the cost in shipping. I try to mail everything flat rate priority to keep costs lower, but for multiple items, the size of the box does increase which increases my shipping costs and the materials I use to wrap them. Shipping costs include our time, materials, and driving 20 minutes to the post office. Never a free lunch, right?

Perfect, I am sure it will save you time for the holidays. Follow this link to purchase gift wrapping. https://www.etsy.com/listing/167325054/gift-wrapping-add-on-beautiful-rustic?ref=shop_home_feat_1

If you don't want to pay for gift wrapping, please know that all boards come tied in twine with a gift tag and instructions as a standard. They are very Giftable.

Etsy also offers next day shipping as an option that you are more than welcome to purchase when you check out.

Unfortunately I do not fly the planes or captain the boats that deliver the mail overseas. I also do not employ the customs agents that control the border. So I can never guarantee when an international order will arrive. I wish this were not the case; If I were President, it would be my first order of business to change this nonsense that is international trading. Some of my orders have arrived in 5 days. Some are still lost on an island in the South Pacific with a guy named Chuck and a volleyball named Wilson.

As this rarely happens, please contact me before leaving a 3 star review. I do read them and I do have feelings because I am human. I want you to like my product. I love my boards and the things I make, so if you are not happy I will try my best to make it right for you. I do make mistakes, I am not perfect (which is hard for me since I am a perfectionist), but I will own up to it and try to fix it. Please message me if you are not satisfied; although I like being able to pay my mortgage, money is not my only goal. I want to make this world a little greener and a little happier through you.

Absolutely! I cut on my designs all the time. If you don't want to, just flip it over and use the other size. These were made with form and function in mind. Bamboo is sturdy, renewable, anti-microbial, and beautiful. I am pretty sure Marvel is going to turn it in superhero one day.

WOW EMILY, HOW DO YOU DO IT??? [never asked, but a girl can dream]
Thanks for asking! Check out my about page for the story of how magic can come from a small time girl in a one car garage in the Pacific Northwest!
