Cuando era niño, recuerdo que mi madre hizo un libro tranquilo que me encantaba y con el que solo se me permitía jugar en la iglesia. Cuando me enteré de que estaba embarazada de mi primera supe que quería hacer una propia. ¡Bajo y he aquí, terminó siendo un proceso enorme y algo horrible! Tomó mucho tiempo, fue caro (tuve que conseguir docenas de piezas pequeñas que solo venían en paquetes a pesar de que necesitaba un solo artículo) y cuando llegué al final de mi aventura de costura mis páginas se veían bastante meh y un poco feas. Todavía jugábamos con las páginas y a mi hijo todavía le encantaba, pero después de ese primer intento supe que nunca haría otro.
Seis años más tarde vi que una empresa de telas estaba teniendo un desafío de diseño para un "cuarto gordo" cortado y cosido y cuando comencé a pensar en mí comencé a pensar en mi libro tranquilo nuevamente. ¿Habría hecho más páginas si no hubiera sido un proceso tan intensivo en tiempo? ¿Si hubiera podido hacer que mis páginas se vieran mejor con menos trabajo? ¿Si tuviera todo lo que necesitaba para las piezas ya al alcance de mi mano? Probablemente.
Ahora tenía tres hijos, y el libro tranquilo que ya había hecho estaba disfrutando de un uso exhaustivo y siendo arrastrado incluso a través de él era grande y no era mi mejor trabajo.
Sabía qué mejoras quería para una segunda toma. Sabía cómo hacerlos más fáciles de coser y más fáciles de llevar, así que comencé a diseñar algunos libros tranquilos para mi propia familia.
¡Esta nueva versión fue mucho mejor! Eran más pequeños y más fáciles de almacenar y moverse, el diseño era mejor, había mucha menos costura involucrada, y al final seguía siendo un libro fantástico.
¡Nos han encantado! Dejo que mis hijos elijan dos si cada uno de nosotros tiene que ir a algún lugar en el que vamos a estar en el coche durante mucho tiempo o en una sala de espera o en la iglesia. Son tan delgados que son fáciles de tirar en un bolso, pero aún tienen muchos activos para mantener a mis hijos rudos ocupados con algo que no es electrónico.

When I was a child I remember my mom made a felt quiet book that I loved and was only allowed to play with at church. When I found out I was pregnant with my first I knew I wanted to make one of my own. Low and behold, it ended up being and a huge and somewhat horrible process! It took so much time, it was expensive (I had to get dozens of tiny pieces that only came in packets even though I needed a single item) and when I got to the end of my sewing adventure my pages looked pretty meh and kind of ugly. We still played with the pages and my son still loved it, but after that first attempt I knew I'd never make another.
Six years later I saw a fabric company was having a design challenge for a cut and sew "fat quarter" and as I started thinking about I started thinking about my quiet book again. Would I have made more pages if it hadn't been such a time intensives process to do? If I could have made my pages look better with less work? If I had everything I needed for the pieces already at my finger tips? Probably.
I now had three kids, and the quiet book I had already made was enjoying some thorough use and getting hauled around even through it was large and not my best work.
I knew what improvements I wanted for a second shot. I knew how to make them easier to sew and easier to carry around, so I started designing some quiet books for my own family.
This new version was so much better! They were smaller and easier to store and get around, the design was better, there was a lot less sewing involved, and at the end it was still a fantastic book.
We have loved them! I let my kids each pick two if we every have to go somewhere that we are going to be in the car for a long time or in a waiting room or at church. They are so thin that they are easy to throw in a purse, but still have plenty of actives to keep my rough boys busy with something that is not electronic.
