About

Flying with ButterflySue

I owe everything I am to my wonderful musical and artistic family and the genes they passed to me! They all gave me maximum support and encouragement to enable me to become a dress and shoe designer.

My creative mind is always planning the next project and the one beyond while working on the current one, so I also have a bit of a "butterfly" mind. When out in the country with my camera I am just like a butterfly, seeking delight in flowers and the wild life around me.When out as a collector, I just love those unexpected serendipitous moments that make me take a deep breath. Seeking and discovering new things gives me a real buzz, it is like an addictive drug!

Having learnt to sew as a very young child I was always making things; and used to secretly stash away all my little treasures such as buttons, empty perfume bottles, beads and bits of lace in my doll's house.

My introduction to antiques began age 7, visiting my slightly "dotty" Great Aunt. She gave me an Armand Marseille "Dream Baby" doll and a little bone china lustre tea set.She had so many beautiful things, especially Whitby Jet and Pietra Dura jewellery. At age 14, another dear Aunt and my Grandma gave me an Edwardian tourquoise and pearl lavalier pendant and an early Waltham wrist watch. It is so heartwarming to think they gave me these things at such a young age because they knew I would love and treasure them!
My lifetime passion for vintage and antique jewellery really began to take off!

At college, age 18 I purchased my first piece of Whitby jet in a street market and then began looking at other things like Art Deco china and egg cups in all the junk shops. Another significant moment in my collecting career was falling in love with Clarice Cliff Art Deco china. At the time I discovered her work in 1967, I knew nothing about her and just liked her work and off beat colour combinations.

I am a lifetime collector and hoarder extraordinaire of over 50 years. Being a senior citizen age has put a reality check on everything. Family circumstances have dictated a house move at some point in the future so now I must downsize in earnest.

Sorting and packing up a lifetime of possessions ( you will gather I am not a minimalist ) and family health issues don't allow much time for creativity.
At this moment in time I do not intend to embark on any more fine sewing projects such as ring bearer pillows. I just want to concentrate on selling my little vintage and antique treasures and enjoying my butterfly photography.

As lifetime collector of antique and vintage jewellery I have so much I now reluctantly have to dispose of. Add to that all the creative things I have done and I have enough for stock for several shops.Hence this shop was born.
