ByCasendra is a place to share the creations I am constantly invoking out of the baskets and shelves full of secondhand and recycled fabrics, yarns, clothing and odds and ends I am forever salvaging, saving, acquiring because I see their artistic potential! My mother has fondly called me a borderline hoarder, but if there is crafty potential it is hard for me to let go! Since a young child, I have loved to sew and create all sorts of things, from dolls and felt mice to fairy houses and paper dolls complete with playscenes. Dolls and critters and fairy houses have grown into fashions and art hangings as well. I am constantly seeing some bit of ribbon or lace, a stray sock, an antique coin, a twisted branch of driftwood casually aslant a shell, and suddenly knowing a mermaid, or a fairy bracelet or gypsy belt is just awaiting rebirth. Many of the things are never even closely duplicated and others seem to find some common thread, such as my Winter Wizard hats, Moon Princess attire and fairy gypsy belts. Etsy is a place I feel kindred spirits as much as I can through the internet, and I love the thought of images of my one of kind creations drifting through the technological ether amongst others' art and craftiness. I love to attend events where I can vend my work as well, but living on an island with children and animals limits my travel somewhat. Hopefully more events will present themselves as time goes by. I love working from home and have been an artist member of our local Artists Association which allows my unique creations to share wall space with a variety of talented island artists in my hometown. I also work in local theatre, sourcing props and creating costumes for live stage productions, as well as host many community ritual gatherings where costumes and whimsical attire are encouraged!
