Generations of artists, craftsman, designers

At CARAUT, we strive to recreate new unique designs using preowned, recycled fabrics and materials. The availability of high quality fabrics from thrift store donations is the perfect way to create new from old. Our products are always unique and we're happy to know that we salvaged items from filling up landfills, or requiring energy resources to create new materials.

The clothing industry is second in line as the worst polluters, next to oil. The water requirements needed to grow cotton are significant, the petroleum required to power plants and chemicals used for processing and dyes are energy demanding and polluting, The fashion industry is responsible for approximately 20% of global water contamination. Our landfills are full of discarded clothing, and our good intentions to send unwanted, used clothing to East Africa have nearly decimated their own textile industry, costing a loss of almost 500,000 jobs in Kenya's textile markets. (Kenya is proposing a ban on imported used clothing to help rebuild the industry).

There is also a 'fun factor' in hunting through thrift shops and yard sales as well that makes the experience rewarding as well as Eco-Friendly. Finding that designer garment or unique, beautiful fabric item at a thrift store prices is most exciting and I can't wait to get it home and start working on something new!

We hope you enjoy our products and appreciate that your purchases of our repurposed, altered items are also good for the environment. - Thank you !

I love working with fabric - whether repurposing recycled fabrics into new treasures, creating my own designs of clothing or accessories, or in my fabric art studio creating fabric collage art pieces (painting with fabric)
