    Artist at Heart

I never dreamed I would grow up and become a potter! With dreams of bettering the planet, I graduated with a B.S. in Ecological Restoration, and two minors (Botany and Watershed Management) from Humboldt State University. I started my own native garden and landscaping business right out of college, called "Just Be," and helped locals learn about biodiversity with native plants, while removing invasive plant species. I was given a gift of a "10-week workshop in ceramics" at the local art school and gallery the first summer of graduation. Class met once a week, for 10 weeks, for two hours. It became my therapy, my meditation, my sacred space. When I wasn't in soil, I was in clay. I made the transition from "Just Be" to "CBe Ceramics" the summer of 2015, and in 2016 I decided to become a full-time potter. I have been creating behind the wheel ever since.

I’ve been featured in several art shows (Fire Arts Gallery Mar 2014, Brenda Tuxford Gallery April 2014, Fire Arts Center March 2015, Gallery Metier May 2015, Fire Arts Center Gallery Mar 2016, Mar 2017, and July 2019) and have been published (North Coast Journal March 2014) since I’ve started this clay journey. I even led a ceramics course and workshop at the local art center from October 2014-March 2015. I am currently a member at the Fire Arts Center, a member of the Old Creamery District, and had a booth at the Saturday Art Market every month from June-September in Arcata in 2015-2016. They have since been canceled due to funding. I was a vendor for the 2017 and 2018 North Country Fair in Arcata. I was a vendor for the 2019 North Coast Open Studios in June. I travelled to Chile from January 27 through February 16 2020 for a ceramic workshop with other ceramicists around the world, led by Ayumi Horie at Centro de Curaumilla, near Valpalraiso. I learned a variety of techniques and added tools and resources to my clay palate. All in-person markets for 2020 have been cancelled due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.

I work with commercially manufactured stoneware and porcelain clay. All works are bisque fired in an electric kiln, and natural gas-fired to Δ10 (2345°F) in a reduction kiln, unless otherwise noted. This temperature range known as high fire, results in the most durable and useful pieces possible. The reduction atmosphere helps to create a wide range of texture and hues in the glazes. I use an electric potter's wheel, clay slabs, and hand build to create my pieces.

I enjoy the learning process, personal growth and peace I experience since I've started on this path in life. I dreamed of bettering the planet, and I'd like to think I'm still doing that, through a different medium. I put a little piece of my heart in every form, and I am both honored and excited that I get to share my work with you.

Pots are like people: no pottery is perfect, and neither are we. Sometimes the ceramic world can be unforgiving, or have a “mind of its own” due to unforeseeable factors. Things happen, glazes run, shit cracks and stuff explodes, especially in a shared community space. However, we all have interesting characteristics that make us special; so too with pottery. When you do not seek perfection in pottery or people, and enjoy them for what they are, you will find your life greatly enriched.

When you make the decision to place an order through my shop on a ready to ship item, make sure you have thoroughly decided. There are no refunds. I include multiple photographs from different angles. In many cases I provide measurements, however, if they are not provided, I am always open and responsive to questions regarding a listing. I write a description of each item to help you with your decision making. Take your time! *All purchases are final.*If there is a problem with your order, please contact me. If for some reason you have to *cancel* before shipment has occurred, there is a $10 fee for cancellation starting April 2018.

As for pre-orders, once payment is accepted, work will be begin. If for some reason valid reason, you have to "cancel*, you agree to forfeit 50% of the total sale (excluding shipment). If an anomaly occurs, I will decide upon shipment discounts I may apply. Generally I may mark the item down to a price I would have listed it should it have been a ready-to-ship. This mark down will reflect in a reimbursement to the buyer on a case by case basis.
I accept payments via credit card, debit card and Etsy gift cards through the Etsy website. All CA orders are subject to CA tax.

I used to accept PayPal but because I offer pipes from time to time, PayPal has decided to revoke themselves as a form of payment. Lame.

Custom orders must be paid in full up front. Once payment is received, custom orders take 6 weeks; 8-10 weeks during high volume or holidays.
I use USPS Flat Rate Priority Shipping for all orders. For jewelry, I offer First Class and Priority. I always try to reuse packing materials (bubble wrap, air bubble packets, newspaper, tissue paper) when I can. I ensure I wrap my items very well! I also include a receipt, business card, thank you note, and perhaps a little something extra ^_^

All orders, please allow 3-5 days after an item has been purchased to ship it (1-2 weeks during high volume) unless that item is a custom order, or I am on Etsy vacation. All U.S. orders are sent using USPS 3-day Priority Mail with delivery confirmation, as well as $100 insurance on your items.

For International Shipping), I offer First Class and Priority. Prices for International shipping are FIRST CLASS prices.

If you are a LOCAL! Use code LOCALLOVE at checkout to skip the shipping charges. If you live in Arcata/Mckinleyvillle/Trinidad/Eureka, I would be happy to meet you at the Fire Arts Center in Arcata to pick up an order to save shipping costs!

    Frequently asked questions
How do I go about ordering?

Subscribe to my site! I send a reminder email the day of an update! Every month I update the shop once or twice. These items become available for purchase at a specific date and time which is announced via Instagram and Etsy with ample time for folks to be ready. Most mugs tend to sell out within the hour. It is best to be on the website a few minutes prior to the update release time.

    When do you have auctions?

Designs that are in high demand but limited will often be auctioned on Instagram. These auctions are not announced and happen randomly. I list the item with guidelines and timeframe on a post through Instagram. Buyer must have a PayPal account and Instagram account to participate.

    Do you take reserves?

Rarely. Because of fairness. I only take reserves under special circumstances. You at least have to be a returning customer, and have left a review in the past when you did order. Each circumstance varies, and it is up to me to say yes or no.

Do you take commissions or customs?

Rarely. This year I’m accepting a *limited* number of custom requests during the first weeks of April and October. Folks can contact me via Etsy during these months with their idea or an image of a design I’ve already created, and if selected, pricing and listing discussions will begin via email.

    Why are your prices high?

Because it takes weeks to complete a mug. Because I work mainly in high quality porcelain. Because my work is highly detailed. All hand-carved. Because I’m a one-woman show. Because I value and love myself. Because I’m worth it. If you think my prices are too high, my work is not for you.

How do I subscribe to your site?
