Announcement   WELCOME TO C.D. VASS POTTERY

Summertime is upon us! Hot sunny days and cool seaside waves washing to shore colorful seashells come to my mind. My shop is filled with the colors of summer! Cloud white, the many shades from turquoise to deep blues of ocean and the vibrant oranges and yellows of sunsets with pink and blue afterglow. It's always nice to sit or dine in the shade of beautiful green and flowery trees! Browse my shop and find a colorful piece of my handmade pottery that will bring to thought your favorite image of summer!

All of my pottery is handmade or wheel thrown by me in my Tampa, Florida home studio. I begin with a 25 pound block of creamy white stoneware clay or an earthy speckled brownstone clay. I then wedge the clay which involves slicing the clay into slabs, layering it and kneading it to remove all air bubbles. It is then turned on my wheel or hand-built using the slab method and shaped and designed into the piece I decide to create. It is bisque fired at temperatures exceeding 1800 degrees. I hand paint each piece with three generous coatings of my favorite color variations of food safe glazes and fire once again to high fire cone 6. The piece is ready for use and safe for food at this point.

Although many pieces will be similar in color and size, they are each uniquely different. It can take up to six or eight weeks to process a piece of pottery from start to delivery. Please keep this in mind and order early if you are considering a custom piece. Although it is safe to gently microwave and place in the dishwasher, I recommend heating food and drink before serving it in your pottery dishes and hand-wash as you would any of your finer dishes to reduce the possibility of crazing and preserve it's hand made quality for many years to come.

Thank you for visiting my shop! I will continue to add unique and colorful new pieces that may be just what you are looking for so check back with me often!

Enjoy your Summer!!

About

Handmade. Wheel-Thrown. Vibrant.

Carolyn Vass is a native of Tampa, Florida and a designer of pottery. She creates one-of-a-kind pottery pieces that will add color and interest to any table setting. These eye catching pieces are also wonderful home accents in any room. They incorporate the colors and textures of her Floridian surroundings.

Each piece is either hand formed or wheel-thrown from white or speckled brown stoneware clay. For some pieces, textures are added using various objects such as netting, leaves, shells or antique crocheted lace. At this point, the pieces receive a bisque firing in the kiln. Then each piece is glazed, often with glazes the vivid colors of the local coastal scenery of Tampa and Anna Maria Island. Finally, each piece goes through one more kiln firing to produce the unique result.

This time-intensive process creates keepsakes that are wonderful gifts for friends, family, or for yourself. Enjoy browsing these one-of-a-kind creations and feel free to suggest your desire to own a "similar" piece in a different color than shown.

Shipping
Your order will be shipped fragile wrapped to insure safe shipping within 3 to 5 working days after I have received your payment by USPS priority mail which is insured and includes delivery confirmation. All Christmas orders should be made by December 15th U.S.A. (subject to change due to postal and delivery service notifications).

If you are not in the U.S.A. or USPS does not deliver to your area, I would be happy to research shipping charges for the pottery piece you have chosen. Please contact me before purchasing your pottery piece so that the shipping amount and method is agreeable to you.

All shipping charges reflect the cost of securely wrapping and boxing fragile pottery pieces and assuring safe delivery to your address by tracking and confirming delivery through USPS.
Refunds and Exchanges
No refunds or returns but please "conversation" me if you do happen to have questions or a problem with your pottery pieces or problems regarding shipping and delivery of your pottery. Each piece is insured for breakage in shipping.
Additional policies and FAQs
I will send a photo of your custom ordered piece for your approval before receiving payment and shipping it to you. All hand made and wheel thrown pottery pieces are one of a kind and may be similar in shape, size, texture and color, but never exactly the same. Hand made pottery will have natural flaws which only enhance it's hand made qualities and set it apart from manufactured ceramic ware.
